The company produces interactive, mobile, video, web and audio content that explains complex subjects to senior executive audiences.

It runs its own cloud-based infrastructure and builds custom applications and services to support production work.

It is looking for a specialist in Adobe Creative Cloud scripting who brings polished communication and teamwork skills to collaborative development. The workload is moderate to heavy.

Responsibilities

  • Build, maintain, fix and extend automation scripts that support InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop production.
  • Write and revise production-grade Adobe scripts, testing and debugging them as you go.
  • Repair scripts after Creative Cloud updates, operating-system changes, edits to source files or workflow changes, and judge how each new Creative Cloud version will affect existing automation.
  • Automate multi-step production tasks such as creating or editing documents, handling graphics and assets, processing files and exporting documents.
  • Review legacy Adobe scripts, find defects and slow spots, then refactor or change them without losing required behavior.
  • Build scripts that connect to web APIs, local file systems, folders and common production file formats.
  • Document script design, dependencies, setup, installation, day-to-day use and known limits.
  • Create test cases and run tests covering function and regressions.
  • Set task priorities so work is accurate, on time, clearly communicated and quality checked.
  • Meet the company's standards for quality, responsiveness and accessibility, following its development rules and current web and app practices.
  • Keep project statuses up to date in the company's production tracking tool.

Requirements

  • Proven experience building and maintaining automation scripts for Adobe Creative Cloud applications.
  • Proven experience writing scripts specifically for InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop.
  • Advanced JavaScript and ExtendScript skills, with experience using Adobe scripting interfaces and object models.
  • Experience with Adobe UXP, CEP or other Adobe extensibility technologies.
  • Ability to build, change, debug, test, document and maintain production-grade Adobe scripts.
  • A track record of automating multi-step production work covering documents, graphics, files and exports.
  • Experience fixing scripts after Creative Cloud, operating-system, source file or workflow changes, including assessing version impact.
  • Ability to review legacy Adobe scripts, locate defects or performance problems, and refactor without losing functionality.
  • Experience adding error handling, validation, logging and recovery to automation scripts.
  • Experience writing scripts that work with web APIs, local file systems, folders and common production formats.
  • Familiarity with the software lifecycle: requirements, development, testing, deployment, maintenance and defect resolution.
  • Experience with Git or an equivalent version control system.
  • Experience resolving production defects within set service or project timelines.
  • Experience writing modular, maintainable and documented code.
  • Experience writing technical documentation covering architecture, dependencies, configuration, installation, operation and known limitations.
  • Experience writing test cases and running functional and regression tests.
  • Highly desired: experience with Adobe InDesign Server.
  • Highly desired: experience with automated build, deployment or testing processes.
  • Highly desired: experience supporting large-scale publishing, digital media, graphic production or prepress environments.
  • Highly desired: experience maintaining enterprise-level or mission-critical Adobe automation.
  • Highly desired: experience sharing files among InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop.
  • Highly desired: experience automatically generating graphics, charts and tables for placement in InDesign or Illustrator.
  • Highly desired: experience authoring Adobe plugins.
  • Highly desired: experience automating the processing of linked assets.
  • Highly desired: experience coordinating file naming, directory and asset management processes.
  • Highly desired: experience with batch processing across multiple Adobe applications.
  • Highly desired: experience integrating Adobe scripting with external files or structured data sources.
