Description

The company supplies market infrastructure, giving clients access to global financial and commodities markets.

Its work covers price discovery, liquidity and the distribution of market data.

The company has more than 60 offices in 27 countries and 5,300 staff.

This role sits in Global Analytics, which builds critical systems for price discovery, order management and trade capture used by front office teams in markets around the world.

You will lead a small, skilled engineering team as a player-coach, writing code yourself while also managing people, delivery and continuous improvement.

A specific goal of the role is to bring AI-enabled engineering into the team, with safe, repeatable and scalable methods for tools such as Kiro and agentic development, aiming for faster delivery without weakening security, control or quality.

Responsibilities

  • Own delivery across the whole lifecycle, from design and build through testing, deployment and production support.
  • Stay hands-on and set high standards for design, code quality, maintainability and discipline.
  • Make key technical decisions, run code reviews, and spot architecture weaknesses, delivery risks and room for improvement.
  • Build strong automated testing and release processes so delivery stays predictable and high quality.
  • Lead work on hard technical and production problems, fixing root causes with lasting engineering changes.
  • Keep reducing technical debt, needless complexity and operational risk.
  • Use AI tools across design, coding, testing, debugging and documentation.
  • Follow established engineering, architecture, security and data protection standards when using AI.
  • Hold AI-generated code to the same quality, security, maintainability and testing bar as hand-written code.
  • Mentor engineers, guide them and review their code, spreading good practice across the team.
  • Work with Principal Engineers, DevOps, Infrastructure and Architecture teams on solutions that are effective, maintainable and scalable.
  • Encourage documentation, knowledge sharing and shared ownership of business-critical applications.
  • Share technical risks, dependencies, trade-offs and progress early and clearly.
  • Work with business stakeholders to turn their needs into practical engineering solutions.
  • Build modern C++ services for Linux, Docker and AWS EKS.
  • Apply cloud-native practices such as health checks, graceful shutdown, configuration management, logging and observability.
  • Lead the move of older Windows C++ applications towards Linux and container-based architectures.
  • Work with DevOps, Infrastructure and Architecture to set up reliable build, deployment and operational practices.

Requirements

  • Essential: deep working knowledge of modern C++ (C++17 or later), including multithreading, concurrency, memory management and performance tuning.
  • Essential: proven commercial experience building and supporting native C++ applications on Linux.
  • Essential: strong command of Linux development and debugging tools such as GCC/Clang, GDB and CMake.
  • Essential: hands-on work with Docker and Kubernetes or similar container orchestration technologies.
  • Essential: solid grasp of distributed systems, networking, service reliability and production troubleshooting.
  • Essential: proven experience leading engineers, covering technical decisions, code review, mentoring and engineering standards.
  • Essential: a real commitment to automated testing, maintainable code and dependable production delivery.
  • Desired: hands-on experience with AWS EKS and related AWS services.
  • Desired: experience running high-performance C++ services in containerised production environments.
  • Desired: experience with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation and cloud-native deployment practices.
  • Desired: knowledge of TCP/IP, UDP, asynchronous I/O and high-throughput messaging.
  • Desired: experience modernising legacy Windows applications or migrating systems to Linux.
  • Desired: knowledge of financial markets, market data, trading systems or order management platforms.
  • Desired: experience applying AI-assisted development tools within secure engineering workflows.
