The company is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for its FinOps team in London.
The company runs a large Azure estate that supports a platform used by millions of customers. Every architecture decision across the engineering teams carries a cost.
FinOps makes that cost visible, attributable and actionable, so engineering teams can see what their services cost and choose more efficient technical options.
This is an engineering role. You will build and run the platforms, data products and tooling that let the company understand and reduce cloud usage.
At this level you will own complex, high-impact problems, help set technical direction and ship reliable solutions to production. You will work closely with Senior Engineers, Engineering Leads, Finance and Product Delivery Teams to build capabilities that people across the company rely on.
Responsibilities
Design and deliver data products that make Azure cost visible and attributable across the company, including cost and usage pipelines, allocation and showback models, anomaly detection and reporting surfaces.
Own the cost and usage data platform on Databricks. Ingest Azure Cost Management exports, reservation and Savings Plan data, resource inventory and tagging metadata into Delta Lake, and model it into trusted datasets.
Build and own Power BI semantic models for cost reporting, including DAX measures and composite and DirectQuery designs. Manage model definitions as code using TMDL and XMLA.
Lead optimisation work across the estate, covering right-sizing, autoscaling, storage tiering, data transfer and egress patterns, and cleanup of orphaned resources.
Own the platform behind the FinOps data products: Azure Functions, Bicep infrastructure as code, managed identities and RBAC, multi-environment CI/CD in GitHub Actions, and the monitoring and alerting that keep it reliable. Apply DevOps practices end to end.
Work directly with Product Delivery Teams. Review architectures, weigh trade-offs and help teams make efficient technical decisions.
Build guardrails for cost allocation and cloud usage, including tagging policies, Azure Policy, budgets and exception reporting.
Develop unit economics that link cloud spend to business value, such as cost per order, customer or request.
Support forecasting, budgeting and variance analysis with Finance, and explain changes in cloud spend.
Set technical direction for FinOps engineering. Contribute to architecture and design decisions and support other engineers through code reviews, design reviews and mentoring.
Help shape how FinOps uses agentic AI, experimenting with GitHub Copilot and Claude Code to improve investigation, development and reporting workflows.
Write well-tested, high-quality code. Work with Cyber Security to build access, security and compliance requirements into the platform.
Take ownership of what you build. Work across engineering teams, understand how your technical decisions affect others, and stay responsible for systems from development through to production.
Requirements
Strong hands-on Azure engineering experience, including infrastructure as code and running services in production.
DevOps skills and a you-build-it-you-run-it mindset. This covers CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions preferred), automated testing, safe promotion across environments, monitoring, alerting and incident response.
Strong Python experience, owned in production, including building and maintaining production services or data products.
Power BI semantic modelling and DAX experience, with a focus on building and maintaining robust models rather than only creating reports.
FinOps or cloud cost experience, including Azure Cost Management exports, FOCUS, reservations or Savings Plans.
Databricks and Delta Lake.
KQL.
TMDL and XMLA.

Experience with cloud cost optimisation, allocation/showback or cost attribution.
