Systems Software Engineer

The Hybrid Cloud group sets the innovation direction and technology roadmap for the whole company. It owns the design, development and product portfolio of its next-generation cloud platform.

You will work with customers to rethink their IT needs and deliver a simple, easy-to-consume solution that supports their business results.

Responsibilities

• Design enhancements, updates and code changes for parts and subsystems of systems software, such as operating systems, compilers, networking, utilities, databases and internet-related tools.
• Study the design and decide which coding, programming and integration work is needed, based on the overall goals and the architecture of the product or solution.
• Write and run complete test plans, protocols and documentation for your part of the application. Find and debug problems in the code and its integration, and build fixes.
• Lead a project team of software systems engineers and internal and outsourced development partners. Deliver reliable, cost-effective, high-quality solutions for your assigned system or subsystem.
• Communicate with management, internal teams and outsourced partners on design status, project progress and issue resolution.
• Represent the software systems engineering team across all phases of large and complex development projects. Guide and mentor less experienced staff.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or an equivalent field.
• Typically 4+ years of experience validating storage firmware products and protocols, and system software including kernel and OS.
• Expert in several software design tools and languages, including Python and shell.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Experience designing software systems that run on several platform types.
• Solid understanding of software testing methods, including writing and running test plans, debugging, and writing test scripts and tools.
• Excellent written and spoken communication in English and the local language. You can explain product architectures and design proposals, and negotiate options with management.
• Solid experience testing firmware such as BIOS, BMC, expander firmware, NVRAM and HBA.
• Working experience with PCIe, NTB and NVMe interfaces in platform-based products.
• Strong grasp of QA and release processes.
• Networking knowledge, such as TCP/IP and network infrastructure.
• Comfortable working in Linux, Windows and VMware environments.
• Extensive experience with a range of software quality assurance tools and processes.

Conditions

Hybrid role: on average 2 days per week in an HPE office.

Located in Colorado, United States. Job level TCP03 in the Engineering job family.

Annual base salary of USD 111,500 to 211,500. Actual offer may vary based on location, experience, education or training, and skill level. Variable incentives may also be offered on top of base salary.
