System Software/Embedded Engineer (Munich)

Description

This is a System Software and Embedded Engineer role, listed under Munich, but the job itself is on-site in Sunnyvale, CA.

The company is a well-funded startup with headquarters in Sunnyvale and Munich. It designs high-performance, low-power generative AI inference systems, combining custom silicon, hardware and software for hyperscaler and neocloud data center customers.

Many team members work remotely across North America and Europe. This role sits in the Platform Software team.

Responsibilities

• Gather requirements, design, and build system-level services, tools, and supporting tests for the AI inference platform software, including debugging, profiling, and analysis features.
• Help cross-functional engineering teams bring up and validate platform software on AI inference systems.
• Work with the hardware, silicon, and validation teams to produce reliable, production-quality platform software.
• Work close to the hardware on firmware, board bring-up, bootloaders, BSP development, device drivers, and Linux kernel modules.
• Co-design hardware and software with the silicon and hardware teams.
• Optimize system-level performance and power across the AI inference platform.
• Work with low-level interfaces such as PCIe, I2C, SPI, and JTAG.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience building low-level systems, embedded software, firmware, and tooling for high-performance computing systems deployed to data center customers.
• Hands-on experience bringing up and debugging complex Linux-based systems at the kernel and driver level, including embedded Linux, device drivers, and/or RTOS environments.
• SoC or silicon bring-up experience is highly desirable.
• Experience with AI inference frameworks and data center deployment or management environments is preferred.
• Expert skills in C and C++, plus Python, Bash/Shell, or related languages.
• Rust experience is a plus.
• Ability to work directly with hardware, read schematics and datasheets, and debug using JTAG, logic analyzers, and oscilloscopes.
• Self-motivated and adaptable, comfortable working across hardware, silicon, and software teams in a fast-moving startup.
• Strong technical communication skills, including explaining complex concepts and practical solutions clearly.
• BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.

Conditions

This is an on-site role in Sunnyvale, CA, which is required.

Office hours are flexible.

Occasional travel to partner, customer, or contract manufacturer sites may be required, but it is not mandatory.
