Description

The company employs more than 83,000 people across five continents, with over 7,500 in the UK. It works in defence, space, aerospace and digital security, and its technology supports national security and stability.

The team is hiring a Test Design Engineer focused on test solutions for its engineering function. You will define and build test architectures that are sound, robust and able to scale, supporting the development, verification and validation of complex aerospace and defence systems.

You will make sure test strategies meet customer requirements, including MOD standards, programme needs and long-term sustainment. You will guide the direction of test systems across the product lifecycle, working between design, integration and customers.

Responsibilities

  • Design and architect test solutions for complex aerospace and defence systems that meet MOD and industry standards.
  • Set out test strategies, frameworks and architectures for development, qualification, verification and in-service support.
  • Turn system and customer requirements into test system requirements and architectures.
  • Make sure test solutions fit smoothly with hardware, software and the wider system environment.
  • Work with design engineers, test engineers and programme managers to keep traceability and compliance across the lifecycle.
  • Lead and mentor multidisciplinary engineering teams, giving technical direction and guidance.
  • Support bids by giving technical input on estimates, schedules and solution concepts.
  • Engage key stakeholders to keep work aligned with defence standards, policy and good practice.
  • Drive innovation in test methods, including automation, digital twins and model-based testing.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a systems architect or systems engineer.
  • Strong background in designing test systems and their architecture.
  • Experience integrating hardware, software and COTS solutions into test.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, including interfacing directly with customers.
  • Ability to work across the full system lifecycle, from concept through to in-service support.
  • Desirable: experience with test automation.
  • Desirable: knowledge of safety, security and information assurance in defence systems.

Conditions

Based at Crawley, Reading, Cheadle, Bristol, Glasgow or any other UK site of the company.

Hybrid and flexible working options are available.

You must be a UK national and obtain Security Clearance (SC) without any caveats. Holding SC already is an advantage. If you do not hold it, you must obtain and maintain SC before starting employment. A dual national from a non-ITAR country may be considered if the MOD approves.

Full SC generally requires five years of UK residence. In some cases, at least three years of UK residence in the last five may be accepted, with additional overseas checks.

Many roles at the company are subject to security restrictions, and further clearance guidance is available from UK Security Vetting.

Equal opportunities, pay and working conditions apply to everyone.

Benefits

  • Shape next-generation test systems for critical aerospace and defence programmes.
  • Work on demanding projects that directly affect UK defence capability.
  • Professional development support, including chartership and advanced training.
  • Performance-related annual bonus.
  • Half day every Friday, usually finishing around 13:00.
  • 28 days annual leave plus bank holidays, with the option to buy up to 40 hours a year, pro rata.
  • 24 hours of paid volunteering.
  • Private healthcare and a pension scheme.
  • Life cover.
  • 24/7 employee assistance programme and access to a mental wellbeing app.
  • Employee discounts with major brands and retailers, and gym membership discounts.
  • Options to buy or sell annual leave, join a cycle to work scheme, and invest in stocks and shares.
