Staff Systems Engineer - AV Platform

  • Hybrid
  • 6+ years

Salary

$157,100 - 258,500/ year

Description

The team builds next-generation autonomous vehicle platforms, covering compute, communications, sensors and platform software, with the goal of making AV vehicles safe and deployable at scale.

Sensor integration and embedded compute platforms are central to how autonomous systems work. The role shapes reliability, performance and safety for a very large customer base.

As a senior systems engineer you will lead the systems work that keeps sensors and compute platforms integrating cleanly, and you will shape subsystem design and performance. The role mixes deep technical work with close collaboration, and your ideas will carry weight in a demanding, mission-driven setting.

Responsibilities

  • Lead systems engineering for the core AV platform, from requirements through integration and validation.
  • Own system and subsystem strategy and shape platform-wide decisions.
  • Write and maintain requirements, interface definitions and technical specifications, with traceability through validation and release.
  • Lead system and architecture reviews to confirm designs meet functional, performance and reliability needs for embedded AV platforms.
  • Work with hardware, software and verification teams to keep the overall design coherent and the integration smooth.
  • Mentor junior engineers and help improve systems engineering practice for autonomous platforms.
  • Explain technical concepts clearly to stakeholders at every level.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of systems engineering experience, including ownership of complex, safety-critical systems.
  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • Experience in one or more of these platform areas: embedded or real-time operating systems and containers; distributed middleware, orchestration and runtime; low-level SoC or MCU diagnostics and drivers; functional safety islands and on-chip safety monitors; platform health and fault management; sensor data pipelines; service-oriented vehicle communication such as SOME/IP; on-vehicle logging and data offload.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • A track record of working through highly ambiguous problems across disciplines.
  • Experience writing and maintaining system and software requirements and interface definitions.
  • Preferred: 8+ years in systems engineering and/or embedded systems.
  • Preferred: Experience applying functional safety frameworks such as ISO 26262 at the platform layer, including fault detection, maturation and escalation.
  • Preferred: Ability to read and understand C/C++ source code and system models.
  • Preferred: Experience with Ethernet-based automotive networks, such as Automotive Ethernet or TSN.
  • Preferred: Prior work at a leading AV company or a tier 1 automotive supplier.
