Staff Software Engineer

Description

The GAIL (Get AI Live) program places engineers inside strategic customer projects to help them adopt AI and see measurable results.

The GAIL Core Team is the permanent group behind the program. It holds the institutional knowledge, owns the tooling, and supplies the senior expertise that improves each project and each rotating engineer.

As a Staff Software Engineer on this team, you will lead the most difficult projects, set the quality bar for the whole practice, and build the infrastructure that lets it grow. The work is hands-on and customer-facing, and your impact grows with each project you lead and each engineer you develop.

The role centers on the following areas.

Responsibilities

• Lead the most complex GAIL and Go-Live Support work, including large enterprise deployments, escalations, and high-stakes go-lives.
• Maintain and improve the GAIL playbook so deployment standards, required gates, and prescribed sequences stay accurate, current, and practical across the program.
• Build, maintain, and promote shared GAIL tooling that every engagement can use, so engineers do not rebuild the same things and the baseline rises for everyone in the rotation.
• Onboard, shadow, and coach incoming GAIL engineers, including support on their first customer interactions.
• Document patterns from complex deployments in the team knowledge base, turning lessons into reusable assets for the team.
• Define what strong work looks like across the GAIL practice and enforce those standards.
• Work with product and engineering teams to pass field insights from customer projects back to them.

Requirements

• 6+ years of software engineering experience, ideally including enterprise product work and hands-on customer or field delivery.
• Strong coding skills in JavaScript and at least one other language such as Java or Python, with a record of shipping production-quality software.
• Experience deploying or integrating AI features and GenAI models, such as Now Assist, AI Agents, or comparable platforms, in live customer environments.
• Familiarity with prompt engineering and the judgment to tune non-deterministic outputs for reliable, clear production results.
• A preference for standards over shortcuts. You can tell when a playbook gate applies or does not, and you can explain and defend that decision.
• A habit of building shared tools and reusable patterns rather than solving the same problem twice.
• Ability to mentor effectively, raising the skill of the engineers around you through direct coaching as well as by example.
• Clear communication with both technical and non-technical audiences, including senior executives on the customer side.

Conditions

Base pay for this location is $166,500 - $291,400. Equity (where applicable), variable or incentive pay, and benefits are offered in addition.

Sales positions generally offer an On Target Earnings (OTE) incentive structure.

The base pay shown is a guideline. Total compensation depends on qualifications, skill level, competencies, and work location, and it varies by geographic location and may change.
