Description

The team sits within the company's IT group and builds automation solutions for global manufacturing using current and emerging technology. One of its goals is to take repetitive, mundane and dangerous work away from people on the factory floor.

This senior role helps spread robotics software engineering across the manufacturing IT group, aiming for clear gains in plant productivity and efficiency. You will work alongside junior and staff robotics engineers and manufacturing engineering partners.

The role suits someone who enjoys prototyping, building and testing robot cells, and turning electrical and mechanical know-how into real-time software.

Responsibilities

  • Find, assess and roll out fast, iterative robotics software solutions with junior and staff engineers and manufacturing engineering partners.
  • Put simulation, ML/DL, computer vision and emerging robotic technologies to practical use, and deliver complete turnkey solutions.
  • Define and roll out the company's MFG IT robotics capabilities.
  • Review current robotics engineering processes with manufacturing engineering SMEs and update or simplify them.
  • Build ML/DL and computer vision solutions that work in real factory conditions.
  • Turn research material into working solutions that you deploy.
  • Design solutions that scale while keeping operational overhead low.
  • Understand systems and their interfaces end to end so solutions fit their constraints.
  • Apply physics, mechanical, electrical and linear algebra principles to real applications, and visualize the data.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, robotics, electrical engineering, or mechanical engineering.
  • 5+ years of professional experience developing robotics software.
  • Knowledge of Python and Java.
  • Knowledge and experience with ROS (Robot Operating System) and MoveIt.
  • Knowledge and experience with linear algebra, computer vision and software development.
  • A steady drive for excellence, a willingness to learn, and a habit of challenging yourself and your peers.
  • Comfort working collaboratively across functions, with a good work ethic and a drive to solve complex problems with new ideas.
  • Preferred: Master's degree in computer science, robotics, electrical engineering, or mechanical engineering.
  • Preferred: ML/DL, computer vision, data mining, visualization and simulation.
  • Preferred: Cloud technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes, and HPC platforms.
  • Preferred: Linux and bash scripting.
  • Preferred: C++, C, Go, SQL and OpenGL.
  • Preferred: PyTorch, TensorFlow or Keras.
  • Preferred: Real-time systems.

Conditions

This is a hybrid role. You will report to a specific location at least 3 times a week, or as often as your manager sets.

Travel is required 20% to 25% of the time across North America (US and Mexico), including trips to plants and facilities throughout the US as needed.

The selected candidate will be required to travel under 25% for this role.

Applicants may be required to complete a role-related assessment and/or a pre-employment screening before starting.

The company is committed to being free of unlawful discrimination and to fostering an inclusive workplace.
