Staff Software Engineer

Description

The team builds the company's internal go-to-market applications, including the Sales CRM that supports Sales, Deal Desk, Legal and Procurement in running commercial workflows. The company is working toward an AI-native way of operating.

As a Staff Engineer (IC4), you will lead the design, build and delivery of complex, high-impact systems on these internal platforms. You will own critical components, set technical direction in your area, and act as a technical resource for peers and other engineers.

The role calls for strong engineering fundamentals and existing, fluent skill in AI-assisted and agentic development. It is not a skill you would pick up on the job.

Responsibilities

• Take full ownership of backend services, including REST and GraphQL APIs and event-driven microservices on Kafka.
• Set direction for a complex subsystem by making the architecture decisions and answering for how they perform in production.
• Build and connect microservices to the company platform applications, learning the platform's patterns and constraints quickly.
• Provide L3 support for business-critical internal systems.
• Use AI coding tools and agentic workflows every day as a core part of building and shipping, reviewing and verifying their output before release.
• Contribute to UI work using a modern component framework.
• Work with TPMs and business stakeholders to shape requirements, explain technical trade-offs clearly, and reach alignment with little hand-holding.
• Mentor engineers and serve as the technical resource for your domain, raising quality through code review and scalable design.
• Demonstrate sound software craftsmanship, testing discipline and debugging method.

Requirements

• Roughly 8+ years of practical software engineering experience, including production systems you have owned end to end.
• Solid grounding in data structures, system design, REST and GraphQL, relational data modeling and testing.
• Hands-on microservices experience, including event-driven architecture such as Kafka or similar.
• Working front-end skills with a modern component framework.
• Strong collaboration skills, including working with TPMs and business stakeholders to clarify unclear requirements.
• Experience with CI/CD, containers, observability, and L3 incident and support work for internal production systems.
• Current, hands-on use of agentic workflows, LLM integration, RAG, knowledge graphs, MCP or prompt engineering, at a fluent level.
• A track record of mentoring engineers and raising quality through code review.
• Experience with billing, contracts, quoting, or usage-based commercial systems.
• Depth in Kafka or event-driven architecture, or in NoSQL data modeling such as Cosmos DB.
• The company Platform experience is a plus, and certification and/or development experience on it is a strong added advantage.

Conditions

Base pay for this location is $166,500 to $291,400, plus equity when applicable, variable or incentive compensation, and benefits.

The base pay shown is a guideline. Total compensation depends on qualifications, skill level, competencies and work location, and pay is based on the location where the role sits and may change with it.

Sales positions generally offer an On Target Earnings incentive structure.

Work persona (flexible, remote, or required in office) is assigned based on the nature of the work and the assigned work location. The company may check the distance between your primary residence and the nearest office using a third-party service.
