Staff Software Engineer, AI-Native Developer Platform

Description

The team works on the future of AI-native software development. Its goal is to build platforms, frameworks, and developer experiences that help engineering teams create, modernize, and run applications in a world where AI is central to development.

In this role you will design and build scalable platform capabilities that raise developer productivity, speed up how applications ship, and place AI-powered workflows inside the software development lifecycle.

Your work spans backend services, developer tooling, and modern web technology, producing reusable solutions that other engineering organizations can adopt.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and ship high-quality, scalable, maintainable software, applying sound practices for architecture, code quality, testing, and operations.
• Create AI-native developer experiences that make it easier for engineers to build, test, deploy, and run applications.
• Work with product managers, architects, and engineering teams to clarify requirements and take solutions from concept to production.
• Design and build reusable platform services, APIs, and frameworks that multiple engineering organizations can use.
• Apply AI to simplify development workflows, automate repetitive work, and raise developer output.
• Build responsive, modern user interfaces with current frontend frameworks.
• Lead technically by guiding architecture decisions, mentoring engineers, and shaping engineering practices.
• Keep improving platform reliability, scalability, performance, and observability.
• Assess and adopt new AI technologies, tools, and development patterns that make engineering more effective.

Requirements

• Experience using AI to improve work processes, decisions, or problem solving, or thinking critically about how to do so. This can include using AI-powered tools, automating workflows, interpreting AI-driven insights, or assessing how AI may affect your function or industry.
• Deep expertise in Java and modern backend development.
• Strong experience building scalable distributed systems and enterprise-grade applications.
• Experience with JavaScript, TypeScript, and modern frontend frameworks such as React.
• Solid grasp of data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design, design patterns, and performance tuning.
• Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Experience building cloud-native applications and services.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and system design skills.
• Ability to work effectively in complex, highly collaborative engineering teams.
• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong proficiency in Java, JavaScript and TypeScript, Node.js, React, REST APIs, distributed systems, a cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP), and container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Experience with developer productivity platforms, internal developer portals, SDLC tooling, CI/CD systems, or platform engineering initiatives.
• Hands-on use of AI-powered development tools such as Cursor, Windsurf, GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, or similar.
• Experience integrating GenAI, AI agents, MCP, LLM-powered workflows, or AI-assisted automation into engineering solutions.
• Experience improving engineering efficiency through automation and AI-driven workflows.

Conditions

For positions in this location, base pay is $166,500 - $291,400, plus equity where applicable, variable or incentive compensation, and benefits.

The base pay shown is a guideline. Total compensation depends on qualifications, skill level, competencies, and work location, and pay is based on the location where the role sits and may change with it.

Sales positions generally use an On Target Earnings incentive structure.

Work personas are flexible, remote, or required in office. They are assigned based on the nature of the work and the assigned work location.

To confirm eligibility for a work persona, the company may measure the distance between your primary residence and the nearest company office using a third-party service.
