Description

The company builds defense technology, including autonomy software, aircraft and simulation systems, and runs offices and facilities in the U.S., Europe, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific.

Model development creates a lot of experiments, checkpoints, evaluation results and model versions. Linking these records together lets engineers reproduce results, compare approaches and get a trained model into use.

The team is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to build the backend services that keep these workflows reliable. You will tie training runs to their data, code and configuration, manage model artifacts and reduce the time machine-learning engineers spend reconstructing what happened in an experiment.

Responsibilities

  • Build experiment-tracking and model-registry services, with tools such as MLflow where they fit.
  • Link exact dataset, code and configuration versions to training runs, checkpoints and model versions.
  • Create APIs and adapters that connect training jobs, data services and artifact storage.
  • Design workflows that recover from interruptions and failures, using sound state handling, retries and clear diagnostics.
  • Make checkpoints, model artifacts and evaluation results simple to locate and retrieve for training, evaluation or deployment.
  • Work closely with machine-learning engineers to streamline their workflows and cut manual record keeping.
  • Ship tested, observable services with compatible upgrades across supported cloud and customer-managed environments.
  • Key outcomes: engineers can trace any model version to the data, code, configuration and run behind it; checkpoints and evaluation evidence survive failed jobs and changed workflows; developers can compare experiments and fetch artifacts through consistent APIs; teams can reproduce results without rebuilding experiment history by hand.

Requirements

  • Required: experience building production backend services for machine-learning platforms or data-intensive workflows.
  • Required: strong software engineering skills in Python or a comparable backend language.
  • Required: experience designing APIs, metadata models and persistent state for services other engineers depend on.
  • Required: experience handling storage, partial failures, retries and consistency in distributed systems.
  • Required: understanding of training runs, checkpoints and model versioning.
  • Required: ability to work directly with machine-learning users and deliver maintainable software that solves their workflow problems.
  • Preferred: experience with MLflow, Weights & Biases, model registries or comparable experiment-management tools.
  • Preferred: experience integrating Kubernetes jobs, object storage or machine-learning workflow systems.
  • Preferred: experience with reproducibility, data provenance or evaluation records.
  • Preferred: experience supporting open-source software or on-premises and air-gapped deployments.

Conditions

Temporary employee offer: pay within the range listed above plus a temporary benefits package that starts after 60 days of employment.

Pay depends on factors including skill set, experience, licenses and certifications, and work location. All offers depend on a cleared background check and possibly a reference check. Military fellows and part-time employees are not eligible for benefits. Ask your talent acquisition representative for details.

Full-time regular employee offer package is also available.

The company is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer and welcomes requests for accommodation.

Benefits

  • The AI Factory is the base for how the company develops and deploys autonomy.
  • As a Senior Staff Engineer, you will help build the reference architecture that the company's engineering teams use internally and that customers use to build their own AI capabilities. Your work affects how fast researchers iterate, how efficiently compute is used and how AI systems move from experiments into operation.
  • The role sits where modern AI, distributed systems, Kubernetes and defense meet. You will build a platform for the next generation of autonomy systems that draws on open-source AI tools.
