Staff Machine Learning Engineer_Voice AI

Description

This is a staff-level engineering role on the company's core voice platform.

The platform covers audio intake, conversation handling, speech generation, connections to APIs and self-hosted voice AI models, and a voice harness.

Responsibilities

• Help design, build and roll out the core voice platform across its audio, conversation, speech generation, API integration, self-hosted model and harness parts.
• Work with product managers and customers to learn their use cases and technical hurdles, then build toward their success.
• Build and ship large voice AI systems that run across several regions and data centers.
• Write clean, scalable, reusable code and raise the standard through code reviews, unit tests and sound architecture practices.
• Make the SRE practice better by turning operational needs into requirements for internal tooling.
• Mentor engineers and share knowledge across voice AI disciplines.

Requirements

• 8+ years of relevant industry experience.
• A hands-on record of running distributed voice AI systems at high operational scale.
• 4+ years integrating LLMs into applications, not training them.
• 4+ years developing in Python, Golang, Java or a similar language.
• 2+ years building agents through prompt engineering and LLM-based experiences.
• Experience running highly available distributed workloads on Kubernetes with a DevOps mindset.
• Asset: experience building compliance and security software in regulated environments.
• Critical thinking about AI in work processes, decisions and problem solving, such as using AI tools, automating workflows, reading AI-driven insights, or assessing AI's impact on your function or industry.
• Hands-on use of AI building tools such as Claude Code, Cursor or Windsurf.

Conditions

Base pay for this location is $158,500 - $277,400, plus equity when applicable, variable or incentive pay, and benefits.

Sales positions generally use an On Target Earnings incentive structure.

Base pay is a guideline; total compensation varies with qualifications, skill level, competencies and work location.

Pay depends on the geographic location where the role sits and may change with it.

Work personas (flexible, remote, or required in office) are assigned based on the nature of the work and work location.

To confirm work persona eligibility, the company may measure the distance between your primary residence and the nearest office using a third-party service.
