Description

The role is a Staff Software Engineer (IC4) on the Data Platform Engineering team, supporting US regulated markets.

It is a hybrid position: you spend 2 days per week in an office in San Francisco, CA; Pleasanton, CA; Santa Clara, CA; San Diego, CA; or Kirkland, WA.

You act as a hands-on contributor who owns well-defined components and projects and takes them from start to finish.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and run components and services on the cloud-native platform, moving features from design to production.
  • Lead well-defined projects in your team, turning requirements and early ideas into sound technical designs and then delivering them.
  • Work with senior, staff, and principal engineers to keep your work aligned with platform architecture and standards.
  • Make what you build reliable, scalable, and easy to operate by writing tests and instrumentation, improving runbooks, and taking part in on-call.
  • Spend most of your time coding operators, controllers, automation, and platform services that other teams rely on.
  • Onboard and mentor junior engineers through code reviews, design feedback, and pair work.

Requirements

  • Experience using AI in engineering work, or thinking critically about it, such as using AI-powered coding and operations tools, automating workflows, or considering how AI changes how software and infrastructure get built.
  • 8+ years of software development experience with a Bachelor's degree, 5+ years with a Master's degree, 3+ years with a PhD, or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience building, deploying, and operating workloads on Kubernetes.
  • Working experience with at least one major hyperscaler (AWS, Azure, or GCP), including its core compute, networking, and IAM building blocks.
  • A record of delivering complex features or services as a key contributor.
  • Solid working knowledge of containers, CI/CD and GitOps delivery, and infrastructure as code.
  • Strong Go programming skills, or experience with another systems language and willingness to work mainly in Go.
  • It helps if you have experience building Kubernetes controllers or using the operator pattern.
  • It helps if you have familiarity with container networking (CNI) or service mesh.
  • It helps if you have experience with workload identity, mTLS, or secrets management.
  • It helps if you have experience with observability, including metrics, tracing, and dashboards.
  • It helps if you have experience with managed Kubernetes (EKS, AKS, or GKE) and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform.

Conditions
