Senior Staff Data Platform Software Engineer

Description

This senior staff role sits in the Data Platform group and centres on designing and building features and services for the company's cloud-native platform.

The role includes support for the company's US regulated markets.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and run platform components and services, carrying features from initial design all the way to production.
• Lead well-defined projects within your team, converting requirements and early ideas into sound technical designs and then delivering them.
• Work with senior, staff, and principal engineers to keep your work consistent with the platform's architecture and standards.
• Make what you build reliable, scalable, and easy to operate by writing tests and instrumentation, improving runbooks, and taking part in on-call rotations.
• Spend most of your time coding operators, controllers, automation, and platform services that other teams rely on.
• Onboard and mentor junior engineers through code reviews, design feedback, and pair programming.

Requirements

• Have experience using AI in engineering work, such as AI-assisted coding and operations tools, workflow automation, or thinking through how AI changes the way software and infrastructure get built.
• Have 12+ years of software development experience with a Bachelor's degree, 8+ years with a Master's degree, 5+ years with a PhD, or equivalent work experience.
• Have 5+ years of hands-on experience building, deploying, and operating workloads on Kubernetes.
• Have working experience with at least one major hyperscaler (AWS, Azure, or GCP), including its core compute, networking, and IAM building blocks.
• Have a record of delivering complex features or services as a key contributor.
• Have solid working knowledge of containers, CI/CD and GitOps delivery, and infrastructure as code.
• Have strong Go programming skills, or experience with another systems language and a willingness to work mainly in Go.
• It also helps if you have experience building Kubernetes controllers or working with the operator pattern.
• It also helps if you have familiarity with container networking (CNI) or service mesh.
• It also helps if you have experience with workload identity, mTLS, or secrets management.
• It also helps if you have experience with observability, including metrics, tracing, and dashboards.

Conditions

This is a flexible hybrid position that requires 2 days per week in a company office.

Offices are in San Francisco, CA; Pleasanton, CA; Santa Clara, CA; San Diego, CA; and Kirkland, WA.

Work personas (flexible, remote, or required in office) are assigned based on the nature of the work and the assigned work location.

To confirm eligibility for a work persona, the company may measure the distance between your primary residence and the nearest office using a third-party service.

• Base pay starts at $181,200 for positions in this location, plus equity when applicable, variable or incentive compensation, and benefits.
