Description

The company teaches languages through a marketplace of tutors, matching learners with a tutor, a personalised learning plan and motivation to keep going.

The company recently raised a $150M Series D and reached unicorn status. It has over 100,000 tutors teaching 90+ languages to learners in 180 countries, and it is building an approach that pairs human tutors with AI.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the launch of the company Pro, the company's AI-first freemium offering, from strategy and roadmap through execution and commercial results, across squads, learners and tutors, on web and mobile.
  • Own the business case, pricing and packaging for Pro, and the metrics that show whether it works. Bring commercial judgement to each prioritisation decision as well as product judgement.
  • Lead a portfolio of high-leverage, cross-cutting initiatives that span multiple squads and tribes, often without a clear single owner. Shape them and drive them to a shared outcome, even with people who do not report to you.
  • Keep senior leaders in Product, Design, Engineering, Marketing, Finance and Ops aligned. Build trust, raise trade-offs early and drive decisions without formal authority.
  • Stay close to learners and tutors so that every strategic bet solves a real problem people feel.
  • Run your own analyses of how learners and tutors use the company, with a focus on what drives Pro conversion and retention and where the experience falls short.
  • Work without a dedicated squad. Use product resources where available, and bridge product and programme management to turn unclear, cross-functional work into plans, owners and shipped results.

Requirements

  • Substantial experience building and launching consumer-facing, mobile-first products, with a strong eye for design and detail.
  • Experience launching or scaling products tied to monetisation.
  • Strong commercial judgement: you can build and defend a business case, and you understand pricing, packaging, conversion, retention and unit economics.
  • Genuine curiosity about learners and tutors, applied to every prioritisation call.
  • You pull and interpret your own data, form a view from scratch, and can design experiments and read A/B results without misleading yourself.
  • You build trust quickly and get senior stakeholders in different functions, who do not report to you, to agree on shared decisions from competing priorities.
  • You can turn complex, ambiguous work into a clear point of view that leadership can act on.
  • You turn ambiguous, cross-functional work into clear plans, owners, milestones and shipped results.
  • You can make fuzzy goals measurable, agree what good looks like, and deliver without a dedicated squad by borrowing and influencing resources.

Conditions

The company's principles are: care about changing lives through learning; put learners first, for both learners and tutors; keep refining the experience for simplicity, smoothness and enjoyment; act with urgency; execute with discipline and clear goals; dig into gaps between numbers and stories; grow from feedback and setbacks; keep raising the bar; disagree openly and then commit; and put the team's success ahead of personal ambition.

Equal opportunity applies to this role.
