Description

The company is a global AI product and research business that builds secure, intelligent tools for complex business problems. Its Language AI platform serves over 200,000 business customers and millions of individuals in 228 markets, offering translation, writing help and real-time voice translation.

Founded in 2017, the company has around 1,000 employees. Its investors include Benchmark, IVP and Index Ventures.

The Hybrid Platform Engineering track builds and runs the compute layer behind the products and research. That covers the Kubernetes control plane, node lifecycle, networking, storage and core cluster services, across on-prem and cloud. Today this means hybrid infrastructure in Europe, including large on-prem GPU clusters for research and hundreds of on-prem GPU nodes for production inference, plus AWS regions worldwide running the product. The track is moving toward one model where workloads run the same way on on-prem hardware and AWS, giving product and research teams a self-service base to build on.

Responsibilities

  • Own the reliability, capacity and cost efficiency of the CPU and GPU compute infrastructure, covering the hybrid platform across AWS and on-prem, the research clusters, and their hardware lifecycle.
  • Help shape the platform architecture by putting forward well-reasoned technical positions, weighing them fairly against peers, and backing the option that gives the best outcome.
  • Design, build and run production Kubernetes clusters across cloud and on-prem, from initial design through long-term operation.
  • Lead the technical work of unifying how workloads run on on-prem hardware and cloud, particularly AWS, and help research adopt cloud-native technology and practices.
  • Set infrastructure-as-code and platform standards for the whole track, and improve observability and security so teams depending on the platform can see how it behaves.
  • Mentor infrastructure engineers and raise the group's technical bar through design reviews, architecture decisions and day-to-day habits that keep the platform maintainable.
  • Build agreement across engineering teams and turn it into delivered change, shaping the track's platform direction.
  • Lead incident response for hybrid infrastructure, driving fixes through to root cause, and help the team run an on-call rotation it can sustain long term.

Requirements

  • Deep, hands-on Kubernetes experience, including designing, building and operating clusters at scale through their full lifecycle.
  • Depth in either public cloud or on-prem infrastructure, plus enough understanding to work in the other. AWS experience is preferred, and bare-metal or data centre experience is strongly valued.
  • Networking and Linux skills strong enough to debug a problem from the container through the host to the network edge.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code, such as Terraform or equivalent, and GitOps delivery with tools like ArgoCD, on environments you have run in production.
  • Software engineering skills in at least one major language, Go or Python preferred, at the level needed to build tooling other engineers depend on.
  • A record of technical ownership across several teams: you bring clarity where a mandate crosses team lines, hold clear technical positions, change them when the evidence shifts, and bring others along.
  • Strong incident management and reliability engineering habits, and an ownership mindset for building more resilient systems.
  • Bonus points for: GPU infrastructure for training or inference at scale; distributed storage systems in production, such as Ceph; experience serving researchers or data scientists as platform customers; BGP-level networking in a hybrid or on-prem environment.
