Staff Infrastructure Engineer (Storage)

Description

The company is hiring a Staff Infrastructure Engineer to design a storage system that business teams can use easily and that keeps costs low.

You will own the system's architecture, how its data is organized, and how it evolves as workloads grow.

Responsibilities

• Plan the storage architecture around workload needs, covering data layout, partitioning, indexing, metadata and access patterns.
• Reduce total spend through tiering, lifecycle rules, compression, deduplication and less data movement, with explicit durability and performance targets.
• Build storage interfaces and self-service tools so users can ingest, find, access and troubleshoot data on their own.
• Get product, data, research and infrastructure teams to agree on requirements, ownership and migration plans, then drive adoption and confirm gains in production.

Requirements

• Extensive experience designing and running large-scale storage systems, with sound judgment on consistency, replication, failure recovery and capacity planning.
• Able to find I/O bottlenecks hands-on and tune data structures and read/write paths using realistic workloads.
• Disciplined about cost: you measure storage, requests, retrieval, network transfer and operational overhead, then prove savings without missing agreed service levels.
• Strong communicator who can resolve conflicting needs, explain tradeoffs, build consensus without formal authority and keep shared commitments.
• Product judgment and technical taste, comfortable with ambiguity, and able to turn recurring business needs into simple, maintainable infrastructure.
• A plus: experience delivering storage migrations or shared data services across teams.
• Would like to see on your resume: a storage system you owned, the design decisions you made, how you won cross-team adoption, and measurable cost or performance gains with their baseline and constraints.
