Description

The company builds delivery technology that started with restaurant food in 2014 and now covers almost anything, operating in over 500 cities across 30 countries. It joined DoorDash in 2022.

The role sits in the Infrastructure group, which provides the compute, cloud and networking base that engineers across Wolt, Deliveroo and DoorDash build on so they can develop, deploy and run services at global scale.

The EU Compute team focuses on provisioning, scaling and running GPU infrastructure for AI and ML workloads. This is an emerging area with many greenfield opportunities.

The company is hiring a Staff Engineer who will act as a hands-on technical leader for infrastructure work that spans teams and brands. You will set platform direction, turn hard problems into deliverable plans, write and review production code, and help engineers make sound decisions. The platform is being built globally now, and the choices made today will shape how engineers ship for years.

Work here moves fast and asks a lot, but you will learn, build and ship more than at most companies. The role suits self-starters with drive and an entrepreneurial mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Set technical direction for shared AWS and Kubernetes infrastructure, weighing reliability, security, developer experience and cost.
  • Lead large initiatives from design through rollout and operation, coordinating dependencies and decisions across Wolt, Deliveroo and DoorDash, with a focus on GPU workloads.
  • Develop Kubernetes clusters, cloud networking, identity and infrastructure provisioning so they can handle growing and varied workloads.
  • Build reusable Terraform patterns and self-service tools that let teams provision infrastructure safely and consistently.
  • Improve deployment and operations practices, including GitOps, observability, capacity planning, and incident response and recovery.
  • Use production data and developer feedback to find platform friction, decide where to invest, and measure whether changes help.
  • Support the platform with deep focus on GPU infrastructure and broad focus on compute in general.
  • Retire legacy infrastructure and tooling in an orderly way, and build plans to reduce toil.
  • Mentor engineers through design reviews, implementation and incidents to raise the quality of infrastructure work across teams.

Requirements

  • Deep experience building and operating Kubernetes and AWS infrastructure in production.
  • Strong software engineering skills, with Go, Python or a similar language to build maintainable tools and automation.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code, Terraform in particular, and with designing systems that other engineering teams depend on.
  • A track record of leading complex technical work across teams, including architecture decisions, delivery and operational follow-through. You can design across team and domain boundaries and still contribute hands-on.
  • Sound judgment on trade-offs in distributed systems, networking, security, reliability and cloud cost.
  • Clear communication and the ability to unite people around a practical technical direction.
  • Familiarity with GPU workloads and orchestration is a plus.

Conditions

Work is based in the EU Infrastructure group, with the team spanning Europe and the US.

An equal opportunity employer that hires people from all backgrounds.

Beware of recruitment scams: the company will never ask you to pay money or share sensitive financial information during hiring.

Benefits

  • Scope and influence: shape infrastructure used worldwide while staying close to engineering. Your work helps product teams ship services with more ease and confidence.
  • Real problems at global scale, including multi-cluster Kubernetes, AI and ML workloads, cloud networking, GitOps and progressive delivery.
  • Autonomy and ownership: set direction and carry it from design through operation, backed by a global engineering organisation.
  • Growth: expand your scope through deeper technical leadership or broader cross-domain influence.
  • Great people: work alongside talented engineers and leaders in a diverse, international setting, mentoring and learning from others.
