Description

You will set the technical direction and architecture strategy for the company's cloud-native platform and its agentic AI work.

You will guide how systems are designed and changed as they grow.

You will also raise infrastructure standards across the organization, owning how they are designed, shipped and developed over time.

Your manager is the Sr. Principal Engineer, and you work as an individual contributor.

Responsibilities

• Own the end-to-end architecture of cloud-native applications at scale on AWS, spanning compute, data, networking, security and observability.
• Define agentic AI patterns such as multi-agent systems, tool orchestration, memory and retrieval, LLM routing, guardrails and feedback loops, then turn them into standards and reusable reference architectures.
• Set and enforce DevOps standards company-wide: CI/CD pipelines, GitOps, blue/green and canary releases with progressive delivery, environment parity and release engineering.
• Design and oversee platform infrastructure: ECS, EKS, service mesh, API gateways, secrets management, IAM and RBAC governance, data stores (DynamoDB, Aurora RDS, Postgres, Elastic/OpenSearch), and multi-account, multi-region AWS topology.
• Lead architecture reviews and make binding decisions on high-risk changes, weighing speed, reliability, cost and security.
• Define SLOs, SLIs and error budgets, plus logging standards, distributed tracing, capacity planning and incident response.
• Bring in new technologies through structured proofs of concept and risk assessments, and build communities of practice around architectural patterns.
• Write ADRs, system context diagrams, threat models and runbooks that serve as the source of truth for platform design.
• Advise Product and Partners, turning architectural constraints and capabilities into clear strategic options.
• Mentor staff and senior engineers on architectural thinking, systems design and leadership, and run design reviews that raise the bar across teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, systems engineering or a related field.
• 8+ years in software engineering and systems architecture, including 3+ years as an architect or principal engineer.
• 5+ years of AWS architecture at scale: multi-account organization design, landing zones and Control Tower, VPC design, IAM governance and cost optimization.
• You have designed distributed systems that deliver 99.99% or higher availability, low latency and elastic scaling under variable production load.
• You have designed agentic AI systems: orchestration layers, agent frameworks (LangGraph, AutoGen, Semantic Kernel or similar), tool and API integration, evaluation pipelines and production monitoring of AI systems.
• Strong in DevOps and platform engineering: Kubernetes (EKS), Terraform or CDK, Helm, ArgoCD or Flux, GitHub Actions, Jenkins or Harness, and container security.
• Familiar with API gateway patterns for REST, gRPC and async event-driven designs.
• You have built SRE practices: SLO definition, error budgets, runbooks, chaos engineering and game days.
• You understand cloud security architecture: zero-trust networking, secrets management (Vault, AWS Secrets Manager), SIEM integration and compliance frameworks such as SOC 2 and ISO 27001.
• You have worked across data architecture: streaming (Kafka, Kinesis), data lakes, OLAP and OLTP boundaries, and caching (ElastiCache, Redis).
• You have presented architecture artifacts such as C4 and sequence diagrams, threat models and ADRs.
• You have scaled engineering organizations through architecture standards, platform investment and developer experience work.

Conditions

Setup is flexible: you can work remotely, in a hybrid arrangement or in the office.

The base pay range is shown above. Individual pay within that range depends on work location and factors such as job-related skills, experience and education.

Pay reflects labor costs across several US geographic markets.
