Description

This senior systems analyst role covers robotic algorithms and controls for the company's robotic system used in minimally invasive surgery.

The work supports the development and production of new instruments for the company's surgical robot and relies on detailed technical analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Own the tele-operated motion performance of robotic surgical instruments from development onward.
  • Set motion fidelity goals with the clinical development team based on their performance needs.
  • Work with the mechanical design team to refine the mechanism so it delivers better motion fidelity.
  • Study the instrument's behavior and limits through analysis and experiments.
  • Adjust and tune algorithms so the instrument performs consistently in clinical use.
  • Build features and algorithms for new instruments, iterating through prototypes with the design team, reviewing performance, and judging feasibility.
  • Carry out risk analysis and write safety algorithms, documenting risks, requirements, and test protocols that support approval requests to regulators such as the FDA.
  • Review field data to keep improving the instrument's performance and stability.
  • Work with the manufacturing team to design automated fixtures for calibration, testing, and assembly, and define manufacturing test specifications that confirm instrument performance.
  • Bring a broad technical view of the whole project, link the different specialties, and take ownership of problems that span disciplines.

Requirements

  • Understand mechanical phenomena intuitively and perform rigorous mechanical analysis.
  • Have working knowledge of classical and modern servo control systems.
  • Know serial-arm robot kinematics.
  • Program in C/C++ and MATLAB.
  • Integrate hardware, software, and mechanisms.
  • Communicate clearly in writing and in speech.
  • Work independently and stay persistent on hard problems.
  • Provide technical leadership and help define project tasks and objectives.
  • Hold a minimum of an MS in a robotics-related field; a PhD is preferred.
  • Have at least 5 years of experience in a robotics-related field (preferred).
  • Knowledge of Python and basic SQL (preferred).
  • Knowledge of statistics and probabilistic reasoning (a plus).
  • Knowledge of electrical, software, and mechanical design principles and CAD tools (preferred).
  • Experience conducting research with human subjects (preferred).
  • Experience launching real-world, commercially successful products (preferred).

Conditions

Proof of current vaccination against certain diseases, including COVID-19, may be required, and details vary by role.
