Description

This is a new head count, not an existing opening, and applications are open.

The Low Voltage Infrastructure group designs and builds the low voltage battery management system. Its Electric Power Controls team develops controls for on-vehicle low voltage power management, generation, energy storage and distribution as the company moves to the next generation of low voltage power strategy in SDV2.0.

You will join as a senior embedded software developer building control and diagnostic software for low voltage power distribution.

The company uses artificial intelligence as part of the hiring process for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Build and ship high-quality embedded software for low voltage power management controls.
  • Lead the team's software design content and fix software anomalies.
  • Meet safety requirements, government regulations and internal company policies, such as MISRA guidelines.
  • Apply sound design principles and patterns, with an understanding of supervisory control architecture and hardware abstraction.
  • Turn physics and controls requirements into software for mechatronic controls, diagnostic strategies and controller communication, improving it over time.
  • Keep current on Ethernet and automotive protocols including CAN, LIN and ARXML.
  • Test and show that software works and is ready, keeping solutions hardware agnostic across all company-owned software.
  • Write design requirements and link each one to test cases so everything is traceable.
  • Run automated tests in build environments, on test benches and in vehicles, at controller, system and vehicle levels.
  • Work well with the agile scrum team and across Electric Power ART.
  • Use BDD and TDD to build quality in, catch bugs early, and help developers, testers and non-technical stakeholders collaborate.
  • Share best practices across the software community.
  • Work with SDV and SOA principles to build modular, optimized software.
  • Use CI/CD pipelines for development, testing and deployment, applying DevOps principles.
  • Independently review software written by others.
  • Coordinate with requirements, hardware and calibration groups.

Requirements

  • BS in electrical, mechanical or computer engineering, or in computer science.
  • At least 5 years of proven technical and professional experience in embedded controls software.
  • Proficient in C and C++ programming.
  • Strong background in system design and control systems for embedded software.
  • Experience testing and debugging at component and system level.
  • Automotive safety experience with ISO26262.
  • Hands-on work with SiL, HiL and vehicle-level test frameworks, and a solid testing strategy.
  • Deep understanding of software verification and validation methods.
  • Knowledge of virtual testing, DevOps and CI/CD pipeline integration.
  • Experience with JIRA and the Scaled Agile Framework.
  • Integrity, comfort with ambiguity, and the initiative to work self-directed.
  • Consistently innovative, customer-centric thinking.
  • Experience with OBDII (CARB 1968.2) regulations and diagnostic design.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Preferred: MS in engineering (electrical, mechanical or computer) or computer science.
  • Preferred: 7 years of proven technical and professional experience in embedded controls software for low voltage battery systems.
  • Preferred: experience with Cosim.
  • Preferred: expert in C, C++, Matlab Simulink, auto code generation and Python scripting.
  • Preferred: proficiency with software architectures.
  • Preferred: experience with bootloaders, embedded operating systems, controller communication or diagnostics, and complex device drivers.
  • Preferred: working knowledge of AUTOSAR standards and methodology.
  • Preferred: experience with OBDII (CARB 1968.2) regulations and diagnostic design.
  • Preferred: familiarity with MISRA guidelines.
  • Preferred: knowledge of and experience with CAN, LIN, ARXML or Ethernet communication protocols.
