Description

The Smart Collect team builds the platform that decides which vehicle data to gather, checks collection configurations, rolls them out across fleets, and tracks the resulting data from the vehicle to the cloud.

You will build the services, integrations, automation, and end-to-end observability behind this platform, which supports autonomous and eyes-off driving.

You will help make sure data moves reliably from vehicles into the company's AI/ML and analytics platforms, with strong controls for quality, traceability, privacy, and operations.

You will work with AI research, data engineering, vehicle engineering, data science, product, data quality, and operations teams to ship dependable services and easy-to-use tools that scale across the company programs.

Level: Senior Software Engineer.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build APIs, domain services, event-driven workflows, and pipelines for vehicle-recording metadata.
  • Create services and user interfaces for defining collection events and triggers, choosing data, generating and validating configurations, launching campaigns, and tracking results.
  • Design workflows that take schema, signal, hardware, and software version differences across vehicle platforms into account.
  • Make campaign health, fleet coverage, recording volume, ingestion latency, and data quality easier to see.
  • Lead technical design and deliver cross-team projects with vehicle recording, fleet management, data platform, autonomy, privacy, product, and program teams.
  • Raise engineering standards through architecture reviews, automated tests, code reviews, mentoring, and production support.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including owning production systems.
  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Proficiency in Python or another modern backend language.
  • Solid experience designing scalable backend services, APIs, and relational data models.
  • Experience with event-driven systems, asynchronous workflows, data ingestion, testing, debugging, and running production systems.
  • Ability to explain technical decisions clearly and lead work across organizational boundaries.
  • Nice to have: experience with PostgreSQL, Kubernetes, Google Cloud (including BigQuery and Pub/Sub), Kafka, observability platforms, or data-quality systems.
  • Nice to have: experience with FastAPI, React, or TypeScript.
  • Nice to have: experience in autonomous vehicles, robotics, automotive software, embedded systems, or other safety-critical fields.
  • Nice to have: familiarity with sensor data, vehicle data collection, fleet management, deployment control planes, or software-version compatibility.
  • Nice to have: experience with privacy, data governance, resource limits, or multi-environment deployments.
