Sr. Software and Controls Engineer

Responsibilities

• You will lead the design of electrical control systems for ovens and hot baking equipment built at the Sandusky factory.
• Create and guide control system designs for industrial equipment, covering upgrades to existing designs and new designs.
• Direct drafters as they produce drawings.
• Choose components and their sizes, fit them into the control framework, and run the calculations that confirm the equipment will operate correctly.
• Handle the full process: gather requirements, design at the system level, program PLCs and HMIs, validate systems, and implement them.
• Perform calculations and design checks, and work in AutoCAD Electrical.
• Take technical ownership within the electrical and controls group by shaping concepts and designs, reviewing electrical designs and documents, solving problems, and troubleshooting equipment.
• Support customers and internal functions with electrical and control system design, implementation, and support.
• Work with customers, Sales, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Customer Care, and Project Management, largely on your own, to meet project goals.
• Troubleshoot electrical and control systems and equipment.
• Estimate and track labor and materials for control system design.
• Take part in continuous improvement in the electrical and controls group and across the organization.
• Make sure designs follow engineering procedures, industry standards, practices, and government regulations for industrial equipment the company designs, builds, and manufactures.

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, or an associate's degree in a related field, plus at least 5 years of electrical and controls experience.
• Expertise designing electrical and controls for industrial equipment with Rockwell software.
• Expertise in the Rockwell development software used to program PLCs.
• Knowledge of AutoCAD Electrical.
• Knowledge of North American electrical codes and industry standards used in equipment design, including UL, CSA, NFPA, NEC, and IEC.
• Ability to design electrical circuits and panels for industrial equipment and perform electrical design calculations, including safety circuit ratings.
• Knowledge of industrial equipment such as VFDs, proximity switches, safety devices, SCADA, and HMIs.
• An NFPA-level credential is a plus.

Conditions

The role follows a hybrid schedule: 3 days onsite and 2 days remote.

The job is located in Sandusky, Ohio, within the Prepared Foods Division.

Travel to customer and vendor sites may be needed, planned in advance, up to 20% of the time.
