Technical Lead

Description

The company builds AI employees for banks. It works with several large American financial institutions to scale their contact center and compliance work using autonomous AI agents that process payments, originate loans, and guide customers through major financial decisions.

The interview has four steps: a 15-minute call with the Talent Lead, a 1-hour live coding session with a Founding Engineer, a 1-hour system design and technical leadership conversation with the CTO, and a 1-day onsite with the team.

Responsibilities

• Set the technical direction for the platform behind real-time AI voice and compliance agents, including its architecture and the main build-or-buy decisions.
• Spend about half your time writing and reviewing code and the other half on system design, mentoring, and working with product, forward-deployed engineers, and customers.
• Keep voice latency under 700ms using event-driven architecture and parallel processing.
• Run resilient, scalable services on Kubernetes and distributed subsystems, with the observability and on-call practices banks expect.
• Design feedback loops so the agents improve from every customer interaction and human review.
• Take projects from early design to live production in bank environments, balancing speed with security and compliance.
• Work with product, forward-deployed engineers, and customers to turn real lender workflows into technical roadmaps.

Requirements

• 7+ years building high-performance, real-time backend systems, mainly in Python.
• 2+ years leading engineers as a tech lead, staff engineer, or engineering manager, including shipping large systems through a team.
• Solid grasp of distributed systems, reliability, and fault tolerance.
• Strong database design and performance tuning skills.
• Hands-on experience running production workloads on Kubernetes and cloud infrastructure.
• Clear written and spoken communication, able to explain trade-offs to engineers, executives, and bank stakeholders.
• An ownership mindset and the ability to work through ambiguous, fast-moving problems.
• 5+ years of experience overall.
• Experience training, designing, or building production AI/ML systems, especially LLM agents or real-time voice (speech-to-text, text-to-speech, telephony).
• Experience in fintech, banking, or other regulated industries (SOC 2, PCI, data privacy).
