Description

The electricity grid is changing quickly, and the software running it has to keep up. The company's Electrification Software Global Delivery Center in Bucharest builds the systems that run energy markets, covering trading, settlement, balancing and capacity auctions.

These are large, distributed platforms used in several countries to manage live energy flows.

This role suits someone who enjoys hard technical problems and wants their work to matter at the level of whole systems.

Responsibilities

  • Join an R&D team in the Market Management System department, building a modern, modular platform for electricity market operations.
  • Own your work from architecture decisions through to deployment.
  • Design, build and maintain high-quality Java code for a product used in live electricity markets across several regions.
  • Take charge of the full software lifecycle: solution design, architecture, coding, testing, deployment and ongoing support.
  • Improve distributed systems for performance, across transactions, caching, message queues, REST endpoints and JVM profiling.
  • Work closely with business and domain experts to turn complex market rules and regulatory requirements into reliable, scalable software.
  • Help set team standards for code quality, CI/CD and software design, and share what you know with others.
  • Troubleshoot and fix issues across the stack, including database query speed, concurrency and integration points.

Requirements

  • Seasoned Java engineer who handles hard problems under high stakes.
  • Solid hands-on experience with Java 17+ and the Spring Boot ecosystem, including dependency injection, transactions, multithreading, concurrency and aspect-oriented programming.
  • Strong proficiency in Hibernate / JPA, including transactional behaviour, query optimisation, persistence best practices and L1/L2 caching.
  • REST API development: design, error handling and integration with front-end or third-party services.
  • Web security fundamentals, including OWASP principles and secure authentication and authorisation flows.
  • Database proficiency across Oracle, PostgreSQL and MS SQL, including query tuning and transactional integrity.
  • JVM and database query profiling and performance optimisation.
  • Strong written and spoken English. You can explain complex technical solutions clearly to technical and non-technical people.
  • Preferred: experience with distributed applications, messaging (JMS/MQ) and workflow engines (Flowable/BPMN).
  • Preferred: DevOps and CI/CD tooling such as Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes, Argo CD and Helm.
  • Preferred: front-end exposure to Angular and TypeScript.
  • Preferred: scripting in Bash, Batch and Groovy.
  • Education: a formal education and a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field is nice to have, but total experience and professional achievements matter more.

Conditions

Hybrid working model with flexible hours.

Relocation assistance is not provided.

Equal opportunity: every person should feel accepted, respected and able to contribute their best.

Benefits

  • Private medical insurance, extendable to family members.
  • Annual performance-based salary review and annual bonus.
  • Vacation entitlement that increases with your work experience.
  • Structured onboarding with a dedicated one-month ramp-up period.
  • Full access to the learning platform, including Udemy and KodeKloud subscriptions.
  • Wellbeing programme with health events, free wellness apps and a confidential employee assistance programme.
  • Bookster subscription, corporate fitness discounts, meal vouchers, Christmas and Easter gift vouchers, extra days off, and family benefits such as children's events and gifts.
  • Training programmes throughout the year, plus structured support and hands-on learning to grow your career.
  • Active local community with personal development workshops, book clubs, sports, volunteering, greening and afforestation initiatives, and events for employees' children.
