Description

The company makes powersports vehicles and is building out its Functional Safety and Product Cybersecurity capability, so this leader will grow a multi-site Safety & Security organization.

You will work with Chief Engineers, product teams, technical experts and business leaders to widen capability and product coverage.

The role aims to build pragmatic, risk-based safety and security approaches that meet regulatory obligations while weighing customer value, engineering complexity, cost and development speed, tailored to powersports.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop and grow the Functional Safety and Product Cybersecurity organization across sites and engineering disciplines.
  • Manage hiring, coaching, performance, resource planning, succession planning and capability development for the organization.
  • Work with Chief Engineers and technical experts to turn technical strategy into clear priorities, plans and execution.
  • Keep improving risk-based, fit-for-purpose safety and cybersecurity approaches for the company's products, customers, markets, production scale and operating conditions.
  • Weigh safety and cybersecurity risk, regulatory requirements, customer value, complexity, cost and speed when guiding engineering and business decisions.
  • Improve methods, tools, automation, governance, measures and product coverage without losing the right balance of rigor and efficiency.
  • Align product engineering, business units, systems, electrical, software, validation, quality, compliance, legal, supply chain and senior leadership.
  • Turn complex product safety and cybersecurity risks into clear decisions, separating required actions, meaningful risk reduction and proportionate responses.
  • Build Functional Safety and Product Cybersecurity into every product lifecycle stage by setting resource priorities, giving early architecture and program input, and driving issue resolution and escalation.
  • Make sure ISO 26262, ISO/SAE 21434 and applicable regulations are applied correctly, and manage plans, budgets, commitments, support, roadmaps and measures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Computer, Systems or Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • At least 10 years of progressive experience in product development, embedded systems, systems, software, electronics, Functional Safety, Product Cybersecurity or a related engineering field, including at least 5 years leading teams or complex cross-functional work.
  • A record of making and influencing risk-based decisions, explaining technical risk to business leaders, developing talent, building capability and leading change.
  • Hands-on experience applying Functional Safety and Product Cybersecurity methods, such as hazard and risk analysis, requirements, architecture, standards and risk treatment across the product lifecycle.
  • Preferred: experience with ISO 26262, ISO/SAE 21434, HARA, TARA, embedded or connected products, or safety-related industries.
  • Preferred: familiarity with secure product development, requirements management, ASPICE, AUTOSAR, DevSecOps or comparable approaches.
  • Strongly preferred: experience building or scaling engineering capability.
  • Not eligible for visa sponsorship.
  • Starting pay for Minnesota is $155,000 to $195,000 per year. Final pay depends on factors such as education, experience, knowledge, skills and geography, and starting near the top of the range is uncommon.
