Description

The company helps businesses run subscriptions, usage-based pricing, AI-driven offerings and outcome-based models. Its platform handles product launches, complex billing and recurring revenue.

The company has been in the subscription economy for over ten years and is now building a quote-to-cash platform with an adaptable, AI-ready foundation.

This Senior Director of Engineering role leads the teams that build and run the payments platform. You will set technical direction and raise execution standards so the company can offer reliable, scalable payment experiences.

You need deep technical skill and real organizational leadership. Payments experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Define the architecture and technical roadmap for a payments platform that handles growing transaction volumes with low latency and stays reliable during traffic spikes and downstream failures.
  • Set standards for system design, code quality, testing, observability, incident response and continuous improvement.
  • Create consistent ways to integrate with and operate multiple payment gateways, covering failure isolation, safe retries and recovery.
  • Speed up the use of AI tools in development, testing, code review and troubleshooting. Measure the effect on delivery speed and quality, and keep security and maintainability intact.
  • Work with Product, Cloud Engineering, Security and gateway partners to reach business goals.
  • Lead multiple engineering teams and managers across the full lifecycle of the platform, from architecture and gateway integration to operational reliability and improvement.
  • Build leadership capacity across the team, turn business priorities into measurable engineering outcomes, and make ownership and accountability for delivery, quality and reliability clear.

Requirements

  • Experience leading multiple engineering teams and managers, including technical strategy, organizational health and delivery.
  • A record of building and running high-throughput, highly available distributed systems and improving their performance, scale and resilience.
  • Strong technical judgment, with the ability to work deeply on architecture, design and code quality while letting teams make decisions.
  • Experience setting engineering and operational standards across complex systems and third-party integrations, including clear service objectives, effective incident management and measurable reliability gains.
  • Hands-on experience using AI tooling to improve engineering productivity, with results you can measure.
  • A history of hiring, retaining and growing engineers and managers, setting ambitious but realistic goals, and handling performance gaps directly and constructively.
  • Clear communication and cross-functional leadership, including explaining technical tradeoffs and linking engineering choices to business priorities.
  • Preferred: Payments experience across gateways, processors, orchestration, authorization, settlement, reconciliation or payment risk.
  • Preferred: Knowledge of financial transaction correctness, idempotency, payment security and PCI compliance.
  • Preferred: Deep payments expertise is welcome but not required. Strong builders of reliable systems and teams who can learn a complex domain quickly are also valued.

Conditions

The base salary range is $303,600 - $455,400 USD per year. The final salary depends on factors such as the candidate's qualifications, related experience, specific skills, role location, internal equity and budget.

Base pay is one part of the total rewards package, which may also include bonus or variable pay, equity and benefits.
