Space Systems Embedded Software Engineers - Level 3 or 4 (TS/SCI)

Description

The team in Rolling Meadows, IL builds space exploration hardware, uncrewed cargo spacecraft, national defense constellations, and strategic missile systems.

You would join the Software & Controls Department to build new software subsystems and defense electronics and to adapt current systems to customer needs.

The role is offered at Level 3 (Principal) or Level 4 (Sr. Principal).

Responsibilities

• Analyze requirements and define system architecture for embedded software.
• Design, code, test, and verify software with current tools and methods.
• Develop complete product software for new subsystems and defense electronics.
• Customize existing systems for customer needs, since products are integrated into customer machines and many applications are highly unique.

Requirements

• Hold an active U.S. Government Top Secret clearance with SCI when you apply, and be a U.S. citizen.
• Level 3 (Principal Embedded Software Engineer): a bachelor's degree in computer engineering, computer science, software engineering, electrical engineering, or another STEM field from an accredited university plus 5 years of related experience, or a master's in those fields plus 3 years, or a PhD plus 1 year.
• Level 4 (Sr. Principal Embedded Software Engineer): a bachelor's degree in those fields plus 9 years of related experience, or a master's plus 7 years, or a PhD plus 5 years.
• Write embedded software in C/C++.
• Understand RTOS concepts and operation, such as RTLinux, VxWorks, and Integrity.
• Script in Python, JavaScript, Perl, or Unix/DOS shell.
• Review colleagues' work products and give useful feedback.
• Work in a hybrid Linux and Windows environment.
• Use electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, and similar tools.
• Work with Atlassian tools Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket.
• The team seeks motivated candidates with embedded design experience focused on safety-critical real-time systems, digital signal processing, and secure software.
• Preferred: experience developing applications for Software Defined Radio platforms and architectures.
• Preferred: experience developing drivers and board support packages for custom hardware platforms.
• Preferred: experience with Linux embedded real-time OS development using Yocto.
• Preferred: experience leading and defining software development and architecture work.
• Preferred: experience with day-to-day technical leadership, such as CAM or IPT lead roles.
• Preferred: experience with System on a Chip software and FPGA integration on AMD, Xilinx, or Altera parts.
• Preferred: experience with embedded C++ optimization.
• Preferred: experience implementing or defining digital signal processing algorithms.
• Preferred: working knowledge of RF systems, including link budgets, antennas, and RF front-end hardware.
• Preferred: experience with hands-on hardware testing, debugging, and board bring-up.
• Preferred: experience with GNU Radio and/or Redhawk SDR development.

Conditions

The role is 100% onsite in Rolling Meadows, IL, and telecommuting is not possible.

You work a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off.

Travel is 10% of the time.

A Top Secret clearance with SCI is needed to start.

The offer depends on getting final clearances and program access within a period the company sets. Continued employment requires keeping the clearance and program access the role needs.

• The primary level salary range is $108,800.00 to $163,200.00, and the secondary level range is $135,800.00 to $203,600.00.
• Base pay is a general guideline set by the scope of the role, your experience, education, skills, and current market conditions.
