Description

This is a permanent Solution Architect role focused on claims transformation, reporting to the Head of Solution Architecture, US.

The US business writes small to mid-market commercial risks through brokers, other insurers, distribution partners and directly with businesses, and expects gross written premiums of over $1bn in 2026.

About 50% of the book is small commercial business sold online or through intermediaries. The other 50% is traditionally broked business from partners in Professions, Crisis Management and specialist lines such as Media & Entertainment.

The digital business has been built since 2010 through continued investment in brand, technology and operations, and it has worked omni-channel from the start.

Customers can buy fully online, speak to an agent by phone, or go through a broker or carrier partner. The aim is to be available however they choose to buy.

The claims organization is going through a technical transformation and needs people with deep technical skill and strong insurance domain knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Design, govern and evolve end-to-end technology solutions across the insurance value chain: underwriting, policy administration, billing, claims and distribution.
  • Make sure solutions are scalable, secure and compliant, and consistent with enterprise architecture standards.
  • Set the architecture strategy for a complex program and explain it to every member of the project team.
  • Work with business leaders, product owners, engineers and third-party vendors.
  • Turn complex business requirements into practical solution designs.
  • Adjust your communication for each audience, from software engineers to senior executives, and keep track of what each stakeholder cares about.
  • Present options, risks and recommendations clearly to technical and non-technical people, covering technical, architectural, functional, impact and risk aspects.
  • Produce and maintain As-Is, Transformation and End-State (To-Be) architecture artifacts, and defend them before local and enterprise Architecture Review Boards.
  • Check that artifacts match current implementations and assess how changes affect current and future systems.
  • Work with teams to keep downstream integrations, such as reporting, document production and finance, running as the core platform evolves.
  • Learn business domain language and concepts so you can explain them and make recommendations.
  • Support technical teams through testing and development across Java and/or Microsoft.NET, relational databases such as Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle, and integration platforms such as webMethods and Apigee.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in solution, systems or enterprise architecture.
  • 5+ years working in insurance technology, especially on leading market claims platforms.
  • Solid understanding of P&C or commercial insurance operations, including policy lifecycle, claims and billing.
  • Experience with core insurance platforms.
  • Practical, demonstrable understanding of architecture best practice.
  • Strong communication, storytelling and presentation skills, and the ability to engage, influence and motivate stakeholders at every level.
  • Experience working in Agile software development.
  • Strong background in software engineering or lead development, with the ability to carry that into solution architecture.
  • Track record of managing the architecture of several change projects or programs in a complex setting.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Results-driven, with the drive to succeed in a quick-moving setting where speed and quality of response matter.
  • Serve as a go-to resource for solution and technical architects facing complex architecture problems.
  • Review other architects' solutions and confirm they fit program goals.
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently and add value within a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organization and time management skills.
  • Cooperative, flexible and easy to work with.
