Solution Architect (Data and AI Platform)

Description

The TIO Architecture team sits within Technology Infrastructure and Operations and designs architecture across the company's cloud estate, the experience of its developers, and its central tooling and development platforms.

The team's current focus is AI, covering both developer tooling and GenAI for end users.

You will lead the design of the Operational Data Platform, working with an embedded engineering team on Snowflake data warehouses, related systems and AI-enabled features.

You will link engineering, data and business stakeholders to deliver secure, scalable and compliant platform capabilities that support business goals.

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture and design for Snowflake data warehouses and the systems that depend on them.
• Define data flows between systems, along with architecture roadmaps and governance standards.
• Set secure, consistent practices for warehousing, integration and AI tooling.
• Build new platform features such as real-time ingestion, AI-driven insights and API-led integration.
• Shape data structures and interfaces that support natural-language queries and GenAI use cases.
• Connect data toolchains to internal systems through APIs, including MCP.
• Guide the adoption of modern data engineering methods and strong tooling.
• Make sure solutions meet company and parent group policies and standards.
• Lead teams in investigating complex system faults and coordinating the resources needed to resolve them.
• Set technical direction and guide architecture change through reviews, roadmaps and hands-on leadership on the floor.

Requirements

• Substantial background in software development, solution architecture or data-platform architecture.
• Solid record designing Snowflake data warehouses and working across the wider Snowflake ecosystem.
• Knowledge of operational technology data, technology assets, their dependencies and end-to-end flows in a large enterprise.
• Architecture experience with Snowflake, DBT and SqlDBM, including data modelling and schema design.
• AWS architecture (EC2, RDS, databases, SQS, Kinesis, S3, Lambda) and familiarity with Azure.
• Experience with real-time ingestion, streaming, processing, API design, graph databases and AI-enabled solutions including MCP.
• Familiarity with Tableau, GitHub, Jira, CI/CD and Agile delivery.
• Strong grasp of architecture governance, requirements gathering and end-to-end data-flow design.
• Able to plan, schedule and balance several priorities, large projects and transformation work spanning varied teams.
• Strong problem-solving: spotting issues, judging risk, building solutions and coordinating resources to get good outcomes.
• Strong communication, presentation and stakeholder skills, turning complex technical ideas into clear messages for engineers and senior executives alike.
