Description

The company's IT architecture group sets the overall technology strategy and direction, and the standards for designing and building architecture frameworks. That includes the strategies, policies, guiding principles and standards that shape how technology solutions are built and rolled out across the organization.

The architects in the group cover solution and application architecture, infrastructure environment architecture, technical integration, data strategies and models, security architecture and enterprise architecture. The team has plenty of room to grow across all of these areas.

You will join an architecture team that shapes how customers are engaged across onboarding, customer management and advice. The work is about building scalable, compliant, customer-centric solutions for end-to-end onboarding, a unified customer view, and both digital and advisor-led advice.

The role is focused on customer and colleague experience. You will help modernize how customers find, apply for and manage products across channels, and give branch advisors integrated tools and insights. You will support headless, API-first and event-driven architectures that connect systems and channels while meeting regulatory and data governance requirements.

The company is one of the world's leading global financial institutions and the fifth largest bank in North America by number of branches and stores. It serves more than 27 million households and businesses in Canada, the United States and elsewhere, with over 95,000 colleagues.

The hiring team will reach out to candidates they are interested in to arrange an interview. Outcomes are shared with all applicants by email or phone.

Responsibilities

  • Design end-to-end solution architectures, and develop the frameworks, strategies, policies, principles, patterns and standards that guide how technology solutions are built and deployed.
  • Build and maintain architectural solutions that are efficient, reliable, scalable and secure, and that fit business needs, the technology strategy and enterprise standards.
  • Analyze business requirements and map the processes and subprocesses behind them. Recommend practical technology solutions that connect business problems to technical capabilities.
  • Apply expertise across databases, applications, client tiers, software layers, infrastructure, middleware, and build, test and deployment strategies. Create the overall software design and guide development across teams.
  • Make applications and data stronger differentiators for the customer experience, backed by resilient infrastructure and platform foundations.
  • Advise on whether technology stacks are suitable. Set design principles and key constraints for solution components, and assess their security, scalability and effect on future design.
  • Review detailed architectures and designs to confirm they meet business requirements and follow architectural, security and development standards, patterns and frameworks. Give architectural sign-off on detailed designs within your assigned decision rights.
  • Write project blueprints and design specifications. Contribute architectural input to project plans, system requirements, scope and cost estimates.
  • Design highly complex, scalable systems with a focus on reliability, architectural infrastructure and long-term resiliency.
  • Set service-level objectives and build observability standards so production systems run under known conditions and give clear measurements that reveal likely errors or failures.
  • Support the design of tests that keep software working, and help analyze and resolve issues during testing and in production.
  • Run pre- and post-implementation reviews to confirm technical solutions meet business requirements.
  • Find practical program concerns and opportunities to upgrade technologies and platforms, reduce technical debt, and build resilient server-side and user-side capabilities.
  • Lead code reviews, and build and test prototypes to check whether proposed approaches are viable.
  • Use configuration management, version control, integration and build automation tools to support code deployment. Provide proof points for development teams and recommend integration fixes and improvements.
  • Track code changes through appropriate control systems.
  • Support continuous integration, continuous delivery, automated testing, pair programming and test-driven development where they apply.
  • Find opportunities to improve and automate development, testing and delivery work.
  • Anticipate architectural issues and gaps, track emerging industry trends, and recommend improvements that reduce technical debt and strengthen solution resiliency.
  • Make sure projects comply with domain architecture, security requirements, development standards and established delivery practices.
  • Design and run processes that review in-progress work against architecture and development standards on an ongoing basis.
  • Lead work with governance and control groups, including regulatory and operational risk, compliance and audit. Provide subject-matter expertise and advice on risks linked to architecture, technology and tools.
  • Contribute as an architecture or subject-matter expert to cross-functional and enterprise initiatives. Help identify risks and guide significant or complex situations.
  • Protect the security and availability of technology, brand integrity and shareholder value by setting technology parameters and carrying out technical risk analysis and assessment.
  • Make sure assigned programs, policies and practices are well managed, meet business needs, comply with internal and external requirements, and fit business priorities.
  • Identify and manage risks, and escalate non-standard or high-risk activities when needed.
  • Keep up with emerging issues, industry trends and changing regulations, and assess their potential impact.
  • Help maintain a culture of risk management and control, supported by effective processes that fit the company's risk appetite.
  • Identify gaps and improvements in architectural frameworks, standards and patterns for future versions.
  • Contribute to the processes used to make technology standard decisions.
  • Communicate with business and technology partners to understand their needs, recommend practical solutions and move the long-term architecture vision forward.
  • Monitor and report on progress and status for products, projects and applications in your assigned portfolio.
  • Direct assigned resources as needed, share project status, and escalate issues in a timely way.
  • Work with designers, engineers, architecture practices, platforms, journeys and business stakeholders to make sure needed product and application capabilities get built.
  • Work across teams with different skills, helping colleagues adapt to change and grow their knowledge of architecture, tools and emerging trends.
  • Build strong working relationships with internal and external business partners and stakeholders.
  • Share timely updates on project progress, issues and day-to-day information.
  • Take a full part as a team member and help keep a positive environment focused on service, quality, innovation and teamwork.
  • Work with team members and leadership to find and fix product-quality issues early.
  • Give expert architectural advice and subject-matter expertise on moderately to highly complex, high-risk initiatives.
  • Serve as an expert resource for architectural information exchanged with project teams, business partners and external vendors.
  • Work with architecture and engineering practices to build capabilities across the organization.
  • Share knowledge and best practices in architecture and engineering to build team skills.
  • Mentor and train junior colleagues as they adapt to new technologies, engineering trends and changing architecture practices.
  • Provide thought leadership and industry knowledge, and take part in knowledge transfer across the team and business unit.
  • Keep current on emerging technologies, industry developments, relevant business areas, tools and techniques.
  • Take part in your own performance and development activities, including cross-training within the team.
  • Help sustain a fair, positive and inclusive environment that values diversity.
  • Represent the business area and the company as a brand ambassador, inside and outside the organization.
