Description

You will join the software engineering team working on electron microscopy software, where the goal is to keep the software reliable and high in quality.

The product is an application that automates preparing thin biological samples called lamellae in a cryogenic setting. These samples support cryo-electron microscopy, which helps scientists study biological structures and supports life sciences research.

Testing combines manual and automated work. Day to day you will work with developers, product owners and other specialists, from requirements analysis through to release.

The role suits someone who wants to apply test and automation skills to advanced scientific equipment and see the effect of their work.

Responsibilities

  • Design and run manual and automated tests that check quality, function and reliability.
  • Build and upkeep automated test scripts and frameworks, with Playwright preferred.
  • Take part at every phase of development, from planning requirements and tests through validation and release.
  • Find, look into, record and track defects, then check with developers that fixes work.
  • Write and keep up test plans, test cases and technical documents.
  • Work with developers, product owners and other teams to understand requirements and cover them with tests.
  • Add automated tests to CI/CD pipelines and help make testing workflows efficient.
  • Keep improving test strategy, automation frameworks and QA processes.
  • Help deliver dependable, high-quality software for advanced scientific instruments.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of professional software testing experience covering both manual and automated work.
  • Coding skills in at least one of Python, C or TypeScript.
  • Solid experience with test automation tools and frameworks, with Playwright ideally.
  • Experience with test management and bug tracking tools such as Jira or TestRail, including managing the defect lifecycle.
  • Working knowledge of Git and CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab or Azure DevOps.
  • Experience in Agile or Scrum teams.
  • Sharp analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work well with developers, product owners and other stakeholders.
  • Good written and spoken English.
  • Strong documentation skills: clear test plans, cases and technical reports.
  • ISTQB certification, ideally Foundation Level (CTFL) or higher.
  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physical Sciences, Life Sciences or a related field.
  • Previous experience in, or an interest in, scientific software, electron microscopy or life sciences.
