Software Technical Lead

Description

The company designs and builds products for market-leading brands. The Budapest Design Center builds embedded and connected technology for enterprise, communications, industrial and embedded control uses.

Its work covers server platforms, embedded management controllers, firmware, telecom infrastructure and automated manufacturing test systems, from high-performance computing and storage servers to production test tools.

This is a Software Technical Lead role in the Design Center team, based in the Budapest Science Park in the city center.

Responsibilities

• Lead software design and implementation for complex embedded systems.
• Own the detailed design and, where suitable, the overall software architecture.
• Hold technical responsibility for the software scope and speak for the company on software matters with customers.
• Turn customer needs into technical scope, delivery plans and clear priorities for the engineers.
• Keep the software backlog current, plan short-term work and support Agile team practices.
• Guide engineers, track progress and help solve hard technical problems.
• Work with customers, project managers, hardware, validation and manufacturing teams.
• Lead requirements analysis, estimation, risk management, system bring-up, integration, debugging and root-cause analysis.
• Raise engineering standards through design reviews, code reviews, mentoring and ongoing process improvement.

Requirements

• Hold a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related field.
• Have proven embedded software experience, including embedded Linux, kernel, device driver or low-level firmware work.
• Have expert low-level programming skills and understand kernel or bare-metal environments, hardware interfaces, timing and concurrency.
• Have designed software architectures and led technical teams.
• Understand common serial communication concepts and how to interface devices across different bus systems.
• Have strong skills in software-hardware integration, system bring-up, debugging and problem solving.
• Can own the software scope and lead technical discussions with customers and internal stakeholders in English.
• Can match changing customer requirements to delivery plans in an Agile, continuous-delivery setting.
• Have practical knowledge of Git branching models and development workflows.
• Have scripting experience in Bash, Python or a similar language.
• Show strong communication, leadership, mentoring and software quality practices.
• Plus: BMC, OpenBMC, BIOS, UEFI, Yocto or platform management technologies.
• Plus: MCU bare-metal or RTOS development.
• Plus: x86 architecture and server platform knowledge.
• Plus: FPGA fundamentals and hardware interfacing.
• Plus: test automation, hardware validation and lab debugging tools.
• Plus: CI/CD, automated testing, requirements engineering and secure software development.
• Plus: cloud-managed, edge, manufacturing or production test solutions.
