Description

The company is hiring a software engineering intern for its Systems team, working on low-level software close to the hardware that supports intelligent features across its products.

The role suits students who want to know how complex systems operate internally. You will move across several layers of the software stack, track down performance problems, tune system behavior, and write code that talks directly to hardware and system resources.

The team wants people who ask not only whether something works, but how it works, why it performs as it does, and how it could be improved.

Responsibilities

  • Build and tune low-level systems software in C and C++.
  • Find performance bottlenecks and make existing systems faster, more efficient, and more reliable.
  • Work on data processing and sensor pipelines that link software to the underlying hardware.
  • Review and improve memory use, resource handling, and overall system performance.
  • Study how individual components across the software stack affect overall system behavior.
  • Help improve build systems, libraries, tooling, and system configuration.
  • Debug complex software and system-level problems.
  • Work with firmware, electrical engineering, and other software teams on cross-functional technical issues.
  • Take ownership of a significant technical project, from exploration and implementation through testing and evaluation.

Requirements

  • Be currently enrolled in a degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, mathematics, physics, or a closely related technical field.
  • Have programming experience in C, C++, or both.
  • Have a solid grasp of computer science fundamentals, including data structures and algorithms.
  • Understand systems topics such as memory management, operating systems, concurrency, computer architecture, or performance optimization.
  • Have built, debugged, or optimized technically demanding software through coursework, research, internships, or personal projects.
  • Want to understand software at a deeper level and work close to hardware.
  • Be able to break a complex technical problem into parts and explain your approach clearly.
  • Nice to have: familiarity with modern C++.
  • Nice to have: experience with Android development, especially native apps or AOSP.
  • Nice to have: experience with Linux kernel driver development.
  • Nice to have: experience porting reference algorithms to hardware accelerators such as GPUs or DSPs.
  • Nice to have: familiarity with ARM system-on-chip (SoC) architecture.
  • Nice to have: experience developing bare-metal firmware for microcontrollers.
  • Nice to have: ability to use common lab equipment, such as logic analyzers, to debug low-level software issues.

Conditions

The hourly pay range is $40-$50 per hour. Final pay depends on skills, qualifications, and experience.

The 2027 internship runs from May/June to August/September 2027. Exact dates will be set around your school schedule.

The role is listed as full time, in the Administration job family, with no shift premium (United States of America).

Equal opportunity: all qualified applicants are considered regardless of protected characteristics.
