Description

The team needs a Software Product Owner to lead the strategic direction of the team and to make the final calls on scope and Go/No-Go decisions, working with engineering leadership on releases.

Job category: Information Technology. Full time, regular employee. Requires an active TS/SCI clearance to start. Travel of up to 10%, within the continental US. Anticipated posting end: 2/26/2027.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Program Chief Engineer and Chief Architect to split high-level mission capabilities into separate technical features.
  • Remove architectural uncertainty for developers. Supply the technical detail behind each story, including defined API contracts and data flow diagrams, so developers can code without waiting for answers.
  • Own and refine the team backlog. Make sure stories are small, technically sound, and meet the Definition of Ready and Definition of Done before they enter a sprint.
  • Run daily stand-ups, sprint planning and retrospectives. Act as the first point of escalation for the team and work with the Lead Engineer to remove technical blockers quickly.
  • Serve as the final check on delivered features. Confirm the code meets mission intent and matches the original feature breakdown before stories are closed.

Requirements

  • Active TS/SCI U.S. Government Security Clearance.
  • Either a B.S. or higher in a STEM field with 7+ years of relevant experience, or a Master's in STEM with 5+ years of experience.
  • 3+ years as a Technical Product Owner or Team Lead in an Agile environment.
  • Strong technical and non-technical communication skills.
  • Skill in writing, deriving and communicating requirements to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to brief technical and non-technical audiences on development progress, risks, opportunities and proposals for new features.
  • Ability to communicate system design using SysML, UML/Entity Relationship Diagrams, or equivalent modelling tools.
  • Working knowledge of modern software stacks, including how CI/CD pipelines and microservice architectures affect the pace and order of feature delivery.
  • Experience with at least one cloud platform, such as AWS or Azure.
  • Proficiency in GitLab for issue tracking, milestones and boards.
  • Experience with Atlassian tools: Bitbucket, Jira and Confluence.
  • Experience with both Scrum and Kanban, and judgment on when to use each.
  • Desired: direct experience in Defense, Aerospace or GovTech domains.
  • Desired: direct experience in one or more mission areas: GEOINT mission planning and processing, satellite command and control systems, or advanced mission and payload planning for satellite operations.
  • Desired: expert-level GitLab skills for issue tracking, milestones and boards, or equivalent experience in Jira or ADO.
  • Desired: certification as a Professional Scrum Product Owner or equivalent.
