The role is on the flight software team of the experimental systems group, part of the company's defense, space and security business, based in Seal Beach, California.
The work centres on vehicle management systems for advanced aerospace and autonomy platforms, close to flight hardware and mission operations. Associate and experienced engineers are both being hired.
The team wants people who care about safety, reliability and performance and who want to become domain experts in vehicle management.
Responsibilities
Work with systems, flight software and integration teams to define, review and refine vehicle management software requirements, specifications and system design inputs.
Develop vehicle management software and help integrate externally built functions.
Plan and run verification and validation work, including test strategies, objectives, plans, cases and scenarios tied to requirements and compliance needs.
Set up and maintain hardware, software and network test environments that mirror production conditions.
Carry out manual and automated testing, build and maintain automated test frameworks and scripts, and report defects, risks and potential vulnerabilities.
Investigate and resolve software defects found in testing or in operational use, and feed results back to improve design.
Build simulation and hardware-in-the-loop environments, write test plans and procedures, and create pipelines that check requirements, interfaces and performance.
Write unit, integration and system tests, contribute to CI/CD pipelines, code reviews and documentation, and produce concise test reports for stakeholders.
Keep design artifacts, technical specifications, user documentation, test records, metrics and data current, in line with privacy and security standards.
Apply current and emerging tools and methods to improve software development and test processes.
Coordinate test and verification work across multifunctional teams, including project management support for test execution and delivery.

Preferred: experience testing flight-critical systems with simulators and hardware-in-the-loop environments.
Preferred: Agile development experience.
Preferred: ability to find out a customer's organization, capabilities, practices, support resources, preferences, problems and constraints, in order to give effective product support and resolve technical issues.
Preferred: knowledge of international simulator regulatory standards, data and database elements, simulator motion systems, and the tools and processes used to supply flight simulators.
Preferred: real-time software architecture and design methods, and the ability to build architectures that meet real-time requirements, characteristics and constraints.
Preferred: understanding of real-time target environments, including processor and network architectures, communication protocols, simulation frameworks and electrical interfaces.
Preferred: building, integrating and troubleshooting software components.
Preferred: knowledge of aircraft systems (avionics, hydraulic, electrical, egress), components (multifunction displays, wing, engine, landing gear, transmission), and loadable and non-loadable software (radar operational programs, inertial navigation programs, operational flight programs).
Preferred: experience implementing software test frameworks, tools and simulations.
Preferred: knowledge of internal and external software test frameworks, architectures and industry best practice.
Preferred: knowledge of software practices (configuration control, change management, problem reporting, design, peer review, testing, T&E), languages, operating systems and computing for lab and flight test systems, real-time and non-real-time, network-centric, monitoring and control.
Preferred: experience with verification, validation, certification and qualification processes, and the regulations and compliance requirements that govern them.
Preferred: ability to assess and document test or analysis data to show compliance.
Preferred: ability to design, develop and run automated software tests, track results, manage test data and use results to raise software quality.
