Description

Full-time Software Engineer role in the engineering category, focused on software for space missions.

The team builds mission-critical space system software. This role suits engineers with 3+ years of experience who want more independence and want to deepen their technical skills next to senior engineers.

You will own well-scoped features and take on harder problems over time, and you will also start helping junior colleagues grow.

The work centres on software that directly supports space missions, and the company wants engineers who want to move beyond junior-level work.

Responsibilities

  • Build full-stack features from clear requirements with limited day-to-day direction.
  • Take assigned features through code review, testing, and deployment, with support from senior team members.
  • Break medium-sized tasks into steps you can implement.
  • Spot potential issues and edge cases while you build.
  • Write clean, maintainable code that follows team standards and patterns.
  • Write thorough unit and integration tests for your own code.
  • Give and receive constructive feedback in code reviews.
  • Debug issues in your own code, and sometimes in parts of the codebase you know less well.
  • Pair program with and answer questions from junior engineers.
  • Review junior developers' code and give useful feedback.
  • Share what you have learned through documentation and informal mentoring, including helping new hires get up to speed.
  • Build RESTful APIs and microservices under senior engineers' guidance, moving the system from monoliths toward event-driven, serverless designs.
  • Deploy and troubleshoot applications on AWS or Azure.
  • Use CI/CD pipelines and troubleshoot common deployment problems.
  • Take part in Agile ceremonies, contributing to sprint planning and retrospectives.
  • Work with product managers and designers to clarify requirements and understand users' needs.
  • Report progress, blockers, and technical challenges to the team.
  • Join technical discussions, asking good questions and offering ideas.
  • Document your work so others can understand and maintain it.
  • Learn new technologies and patterns relevant to the team's work.
  • Find ways to improve code quality and performance in your area, and suggest process changes based on your experience.

Requirements

  • Required: An active TS/SCI security clearance.
  • Required: A bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, or an equivalent mix of education and experience.
  • Required: 3+ years of hands-on professional software engineering experience, including developing, testing, and deploying software.
  • Required: Solid Python and JavaScript/TypeScript skills, and the ability to write clean, testable code.
  • Required: Experience with Git, code reviews, and Agile or Scrum teams.
  • Required: Experience building or working with RESTful APIs and web applications, using technologies such as React and FastAPI.
  • Required: The ability to work well in a team, explain technical ideas clearly, and collaborate with cross-functional partners.
  • Desired: Hands-on experience deploying applications to AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Desired: Production experience with Spring Boot, React, or similar modern frameworks.
  • Desired: Familiarity with containers such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Desired: Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL databases.
  • Desired: Understanding of CI/CD concepts and tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions.
  • Desired: Experience with microservices architectures.
  • Desired: Exposure to automated testing frameworks and practices.
  • Desired: Previous work in aerospace, defense, or another regulated industry.
