Description

The role is to design, build and improve software that gives the business, its platform and its technology the capabilities customers and colleagues depend on.

The company processes billions of pounds of payments each year for UK businesses. It is becoming a standalone fintech focused on innovation, growth and customer outcomes, following a strategic partnership with an asset management firm.

You will sit in a Product Delivery team that builds, ships and supports products end to end, working alongside engineers, product teams and business stakeholders.

The role carries vice president level expectations, covering strategy, people leadership or individual technical leadership, stakeholder advice and risk management.

Responsibilities

  • Build and deliver high-quality software with current languages, frameworks and tools, writing code that scales, is easy to maintain and performs well.
  • Work with product managers, designers and engineers to define requirements, shape solution approaches and make sure the work fits business goals and integrates cleanly.
  • Review peers' code and share knowledge to build a lasting habit of code quality.
  • Track industry technology trends and innovations, and contribute to internal technology communities to build technical skill.
  • Apply secure coding practices to reduce vulnerabilities and protect sensitive data.
  • Write unit tests that show code is well designed, readable and reliable.
  • Set or contribute to strategy, shape requirements and recommend changes. Plan resources, budgets and policies, maintain policies and processes, drive continuous improvement and escalate breaches of policy or procedure.
  • If you manage a team, define roles and responsibilities, plan for future needs, coach staff on performance and contribute to pay decisions. Lead specialists to shape department operations, balancing short and long term goals while keeping budgets and schedules on corporate targets.
  • If you lead people, show the four LEAD behaviours: listen and be authentic, energise and inspire, align across the enterprise, and develop others.
  • As an individual contributor, be the subject matter expert in your discipline and guide technical direction. Lead multi-year collaborative assignments, bring in other specialisms where needed, and train and coach less experienced specialists. Share insight on long-term profit, organisational risk and strategic decisions.
  • Advise key stakeholders, including functional leadership and senior management, on the impact and alignment of work within and across functions.
  • Assess and reduce risk to support control and governance, and take visible accountability for risk and controls in your team's work.
  • Understand how the organisation works so you can help meet business goals, and work with business-aligned support areas to stay current on activity and strategy.
  • Analyse complex options, interpret findings in depth and use extensive research to develop innovative solutions to problems.
  • Build trusting relationships with internal and external stakeholders, using influence and negotiation to reach key business objectives.
  • Demonstrate the company values of Respect, Integrity, Service, Excellence and Stewardship, and the mindset to Empower, Challenge and Drive.

Requirements

  • Software engineering experience and knowledge of modern application development practices.
  • Experience building solutions across frontend, backend or full-stack environments.
  • A focus on customer-centred solutions and positive business outcomes.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Additional skills of value: experience in payments, fintech or technology-led organisations.
  • Additional skills of value: knowledge of AI technologies and machine learning integration.
  • Additional skills of value: experience with Rust, Kotlin, TypeScript or React.
  • Additional skills of value: knowledge of Kubernetes, cloud-native platforms and containerisation technologies.
  • Additional skills of value: experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD and infrastructure as code.
  • Additional skills of value: knowledge of event-driven architecture, messaging technologies and API development.

Conditions

The role is based in London and follows a hybrid model, with attendance at the office three days per week.

Participation in an on-call rota may be required.

You may be assessed on critical skills such as risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking, and digital and technology, as well as job-specific technical skills.
