Description

The team builds and runs backend services for the company's stores, working in an agile setup with product managers, business stakeholders and frontend engineers.

You will take a loosely defined problem through to a live, scalable release, covering the work from scoping to rollout.

The person we want is keen on backend work, has a record of leading technical efforts and lifting the people around them, and is strong in C and.NET.

Responsibilities

  • Own key initiatives end to end, from architecture and design through delivery, setting technical direction and making trade-off decisions that keep work moving.
  • Raise the skill level of the team through code reviews, pair programming and design discussions, clearing blockers for colleagues and helping them work more effectively, not only writing your own code.
  • Design and build APIs that connect the mobile app with the backend, keeping data flowing efficiently in a headless ecommerce setup.
  • Use Azure Cloud services to improve the scalability, reliability and performance of the backend, integrating it cleanly with headless ecommerce applications.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience, plus 5-8 years as a software engineer with a backend focus.
  • Your background includes leading technical work, mentoring engineers, or acting as a technical lead.
  • Proficiency in C and.NET.
  • Working knowledge of Azure concepts and building with Azure Functions.
  • Understanding of always-on services and message queuing.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions.
  • Experience with containers, including Kubernetes and Docker.
  • Experience with databases such as Cosmos DB.
  • Experience in POS, payment or checkout areas is a plus.
  • Experience with SignalR is a plus.
  • You keep learning and stay current with new trends and technologies.
  • You collaborate well, explaining technical ideas clearly to both technical and non-technical people.
  • You solve problems methodically and pay close attention to detail.
  • You review code regularly, spot areas to improve, and give constructive feedback that keeps quality and consistency high across the whole team, not just your own work.
  • You have worked on backend testing focused on reliability and performance.
  • You are familiar with agile development.
  • You are comfortable with ambiguity, turning a vague problem into a concrete technical plan.
  • You communicate and collaborate very well.

Conditions

The company works closely with Portfolio Brands and the H&M brand on technical solutions, taking part in product work from requirements through rollout and testing.

The team favours learning from early designs, first builds and feedback, improving the product as it goes.

You will also join the Engineering and QA community, with access to experts, resources and growth opportunities.

Applicants should not attach a cover letter. The hiring process is meant to be fair, equitable and based on competency.

Benefits

  • Global benefits and development opportunities across the group's markets.
  • A staff discount card for H&M, COS, Weekday, Monki, H&M HOME, & Other Stories and ARKET, in stores and online, including H&M Beauty and Move.
  • Membership in the H&M Incentive Program (HIP).
  • Local markets add their own perks, which vary by employment type and country.
