Description

The company makes materials science and engineering equipment used across semiconductor chip and advanced display production, and it also services that equipment.

The Mechatronics team writes the software and control algorithms that run the company's equipment, including real-time control of robots, motors, generators, pumps, flow controllers and sensors.

The team also builds motion and process optimization algorithms, dynamic system models and simulations, user interfaces, data collection and analysis, machine learning tools, and remote access and security features.

The role sits within a team that works closely with mechanical, electrical, software, systems and product engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, test and validate real-time control algorithms for robotics, motion control and process automation.
  • Create mathematical and dynamic models of complex mechatronic systems that capture static and dynamic behaviour, and tune them for embedded real-time targets.
  • Implement control algorithms in real-time software, with attention to performance, robustness and long-term maintainability.
  • Find and fix difficult software and controls bugs.
  • Tune servos to meet precision, stability, throughput and robustness targets.
  • Run experiments and servo tuning to measure control performance, precision, stability and robustness.
  • Write software specifications and test plans for simulators, test benches and the lab.
  • Write technical documentation, validation reports and design review material, and prepare customer presentations.
  • Support product qualification, deployment and ongoing improvement work.
  • Work with mechanical, electrical, software, systems and product engineering teams throughout the development lifecycle.

Requirements

  • Professional experience in C and C++.
  • Proficiency in Matlab, Python or another scripting language.
  • Experience with robotics, motion control, or motor and servo control systems.
  • Proficiency in C/C++,.Net, C, operating systems, networking principles, algorithms and multi-threading.
  • A bachelor's degree in a related field such as computer science, information management, software or systems engineering, cyber security or mathematics.
  • 2, 4 years of related experience.
  • Ability to solve problems in moderately difficult to complex situations, weighing options using your technical experience, judgment and precedent.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to build consensus within a team.
  • Desired: experience in several of the following areas: real-time control, embedded programming, multi-threading, CAN bus, CANopen and EtherCAT, Visual Studio, Simulink with model-based design and embedded code generation.
  • Desired: working knowledge of classical and modern linear and non-linear feedback control on real systems, including PID control, state-space modeling, observer design, system identification, servo tuning and feedforward control.
  • Desired: experience with Git and version control in software development.
  • Preferable: experience operating or designing semiconductor capital equipment.
