Software Engineer II

Description

This role centers on building and maintaining the Apex Server application. It combines technical skill, organization and interpersonal skills, and you keep learning as the technology changes.

The Apex team is adding people. The company builds cloud video platforms for video security, business intelligence and loss prevention, and has done so for over 20 years.

Its on-premise and cloud products protect schools, hospitals, banks, retail stores and other sites worldwide, sold through a network of certified service providers. The company is a subsidiary of a larger parent company.

The team works in a collaborative, creative setting where sharing ideas is encouraged.

Responsibilities

• Build new features, change existing code, fix bugs and write unit tests.
• When problems come up, work with your team lead or product owner.
• Review incoming development requests and choose the most efficient approach.
• Analyze requirements from different sources and decide how best to meet each one.
• Gather needs from other departments and customers so the software meets their goals.
• Help other departments and customers resolve support issues they run into with the software.
• Review others' code against company, department and team standards.
• Guide other developers, mainly software engineers, on processes, coding practices and algorithms.
• Share tasks and ideas clearly with developers, managers, departments and customers.
• Take on other duties as they are needed or assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field.
• 2-5 years of related experience, training, or a mix of both.
• Strong skills in C++, Java and JavaScript, plus a solid grasp of development practices.
• Solid understanding of object-oriented programming.
• Quick to pick up new technologies and practices.
• Sharp critical thinking and problem-solving.
• A strong commitment to quality and a test-first mindset.
• Clear communication and good teamwork.

Conditions

This role is eligible for a flexible hybrid schedule.

Casual dress code, and jeans are fine.

Base salary range: $90,000-$125,000 USD, set by qualifications, location and experience, and part of a total compensation package.
