Software Engineer II, Full Stack (Card Pre-Swipe Experience)

Upcoming work covers evolving default terms, supporting more cards, and improving the mobile experiences customers use when choosing how to pay.

The role spans mobile, backend systems and product work. You will work with product, design and engineering teams while keeping checkout-critical surfaces reliable.

Responsibilities

• Split larger projects into smaller tasks, ship them in phases, and coordinate with others so work lands on time, with guidance from your tech lead and manager.
• Take part in ideation with product, design and analytics, explain technical limits, and help make decisions that weigh risk and trade-offs.
• Create and watch metrics for your team's systems, escalate issues when needed, and help with keep-the-lights-on work and on-call.
• Help build team community through growth activities, including taking part in interviews.

Requirements

• At least 1.5 years of experience as a software engineer.
• Experience designing, building and launching backend systems, and proficiency in Python or Kotlin.
• Experience designing, building and launching APIs at scale in Python or Kotlin.
• Working knowledge of distributed systems basics and tools such as AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes.
• Experience shipping web apps with declarative UI frameworks such as React or Vue.
• Ability to turn a simple problem or business case into a solution spanning several software components, with clear, tested, extensible code.
• Comfortable working in a large codebase, debugging others' code, and giving feedback in code reviews.
• You take ownership of your growth and actively ask your team, manager and stakeholders for feedback.
• Strong verbal and written communication to work well with the global engineering team.

Conditions

Base pay grade L and equity grade 5.

Pay range of CAD $133,000 to $183,000 per year. New hires usually start near the bottom of the range, and pay depends on location, experience and job skills.

Base pay is part of total compensation, and you may be eligible for equity rewards from the parent company, the company Holdings, Inc.

This is a remote role open only to candidates living in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, or Saskatchewan.

The company is remote-first. Most roles can be done from almost anywhere in the country of employment, some may need occasional in-person work at an office, and a few are office-based. All new hires are invited to an in-person onboarding.

For roles based in San Francisco or Los Angeles, qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records are considered, as required by law.
