Description

The company is rebuilding biotech around AI. Its platform, used by scientists to design experiments, capture structured data, and run AI agents and models in their workflows, serves over 200,000 scientists, including staff at Sanofi, Moderna, and more than half of the world's top 50 biopharma companies.

The company treats AI fluency as a core skill. The interview includes a short AI-focused exercise or discussion about how you use AI to do your work, and you are welcome to mention any tools, platforms, or workflows you already use.

You will join the Infrastructure team, which builds and runs the AWS foundations that every engineering team uses to ship software: Kubernetes (EKS), networking, secrets and identity, observability, infrastructure-as-code, and the cost of running it all at scale.

The team hires for strong programming, systems design, and problem-solving skills. You will take ambiguous problems and own multi-quarter platform work from first design to production and handoff, building secure, reliable, and efficient defaults for engineers across the company.

Responsibilities

  • Own projects from design and tech plan through prototype, production rollout, and operational handoff.
  • Build and maintain internal apps, APIs, automation, and tooling, such as CLIs, Slack apps, serverless services, and AI-powered assistants, that support the cloud platform and infrastructure workflows.
  • Own parts of the AWS foundation, including EKS, networking, secrets and PKI, plus the security and observability capabilities around them, with defined SLOs, runbooks, and useful telemetry.
  • Improve the Terraform Cloud release system, reusable Terraform modules, and related tooling, and add policy-as-code guardrails so service teams can self-serve safely.
  • Lead cloud cost governance: build cost visibility and anomaly alerts, allocate shared platform costs to the services causing them, and analyze usage trends.
  • Contribute to observability tooling, vendor relationships, and the cost and performance tradeoffs of the monitoring stack.
  • Make architectural decisions that other teams build on, align multiple teams, and set technical direction and standards for your areas.
  • Run production systems: on-call, incident response, blameless postmortems, and root-cause analysis, and use the findings to cut toil.
  • Work with engineers across the company to understand their needs, mentor teammates through design reviews and tech plan feedback, and improve tooling, best practices, and engineering processes.
  • Read the engineering blog posts on how the company runs Terraform Cloud across hundreds of workspaces, and on its Amazon Bedrock Slackbot that answers developer questions.

Requirements

  • 8+ years in software engineering, site reliability, platform, or infrastructure engineering.
  • Strong fundamentals in coding, testing, debugging, API design, and system design, plus proficiency in at least one general-purpose language such as Python, Go, or TypeScript.
  • Hands-on AWS experience with services such as EC2, EKS, RDS, VPC, IAM, and S3, and a clear understanding of how compute, storage, networking, and security connect.
  • Production experience with infrastructure-as-code, ideally Terraform at significant scale.
  • Working knowledge of Kubernetes and container platforms.
  • A record of independently scoping and delivering complex, ambiguous projects that last multiple months, from proposal to production, including writing technical design documents and explaining tradeoffs to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience making architectural decisions that other engineers and teams depend on, and getting several teams aligned.
  • Comfort across development and operations, including diagnosing difficult production problems under pressure and taking part in an on-call rotation.
  • Clear written communication, strong documentation habits, and enjoyment of working with internal platform users.
  • Nice to have: cloud cost management experience, including cost allocation, tagging strategies, commitment purchasing, and unit economics.
  • Nice to have: experience with secrets and PKI infrastructure such as HashiCorp Vault.
  • Nice to have: experience with AWS networking at scale, such as VPC design, Transit Gateway, and multi-region connectivity.
  • Nice to have: experience building internal developer tools such as CLIs, bots, or serverless services, including LLM-powered tools like retrieval-augmented generation on Amazon Bedrock.
  • Nice to have: experience with observability platforms and managing vendor relationships for engineering tools.
  • Nice to have: experience running infrastructure in regulated environments, such as GxP, or across multiple regions.
  • Nice to have: experience with GitOps and policy-as-code approaches to infrastructure change management.
  • Nice to have: experience as a technical lead or mentor.
  • Nice to have: experience using AI-assisted development tools to speed up engineering and operations work.
