Description

The Pathology and Digital Imaging team supports the preclinical studies that the company's devices go through before they reach a user. The work is precise: examining tissue to see what happened at the cellular level. The team's findings help establish safety, guide device improvements, and advance the science.

Histological analysis has found that the company's threads keep 98% of neurons intact at the implant interface, and this team is what makes that kind of analysis possible.

The team is small and close-knit. You will work directly with pathologists, technicians, and neuroscientists, watching how they use your software, hearing where it is slow or unclear, and shipping fixes and features quickly. Feedback arrives within hours rather than across sprints.

Responsibilities

  • Own the software stack behind the company's pathology and histology work, covering every stage from tissue collection at necropsy through processing, staining, and imaging.
  • Build tools that scale the analysis: track thousands of tissue specimens from collection through microscopic review, give scientists ways to work with billion-pixel images, and develop AI tools that automatically analyze tissue response.
  • Build a specimen tracking system that follows samples, organ blocks, and slides through each step of the histology workflow.
  • Build a high-performance whole-slide image viewer that renders billion-pixel microscopy images in the browser.
  • Build annotation and analysis tools that let scientists mark regions of interest, score pathology findings, and compare serial sections using image alignment and overlays.
  • Build ML annotation pipelines that show model predictions to scientists for validation, speeding up analysis of large tissue datasets.
  • Talk with users, understand their problems, and turn them into well-built software in a highly collaborative setting.
  • Fix your software when it breaks on the lab floor.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent demonstrated work experience.
  • Strong full-stack engineering skills. The stack is Ruby on Rails and React/TypeScript, but the team values your ability to learn and ship over a match with that stack.
  • A track record of building software that real people use.
  • Comfort with ambiguity, since manufacturing at this scale has not been done before for this kind of device.

Conditions

Equal-opportunity statement omitted from this rewrite.
