Software Engineer 1 (Java, Linux, SQL)

Description

The team designs, builds, tests and maintains software products, covering analysis through upkeep.

You work across the full lifecycle of each product using agile and DevOps practices.

You are a self-starter who works well with your own team and others across the organization, and you take ownership of the quality of what you ship, meeting company standards with minimal effect on customers.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test, run and maintain products.
• Own your work end to end by writing production-ready code that is easy to test.
• Produce designs that follow architecture best practices, weighing the scalability, reliability and performance of every system they touch.
• Investigate failures, propose design changes and push for operational improvements.
• Make design and coding choices with the customer experience first.
• Act on code review feedback and update your work to meet standards.
• Review colleagues' code to advise on engineering practice and compliance with development procedures.
• Make sure every stage of development meets compliance and security practices.
• Build reliability engineering standards into everyday development work.
• Assess emerging technologies and help shape best practices that support the company's technology transformation.
• Help build a culture of innovation, collaboration and continuous improvement.
• Review tasks critically, prioritize and size them for incremental delivery, and raise blockers and delays early.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
• 2 to 3 years of relevant experience.
• Preferred: expert coding skills in Java and Spring Boot.
• Nice to have: working knowledge of shell scripting, GitLab, SQL and Linux.
• Preferred: functional testing experience, creating, maintaining and running both manual and automated tests.
• Preferred: DevOps skills including containers, cloud, automation, security, configuration management and CI/CD.
• Preferred: deep knowledge of modeling, application design and architecture.
• Preferred: unit testing experience, including test automation and integration with CI systems, plus agile development experience, typically with Scrum, Kanban or SAFe.
• Preferred: strong understanding of system and network architecture.
• Preferred: ability to find, fix and retest defects.
• Preferred: expert skill with service virtualization, test case modeling, and test data management tools and processes.
