Software Developer in Test II

Description

The company is building a next-generation global media and entertainment business made up of three segments: Studios, Direct-to-Consumer, and TV Media. Its brands span news, sports, and entertainment.

You will join the Testing Center of Excellence, which owns quality engineering processes for the Consumer Digital and Platform organization. The group supplies shared processes and tools for several brands across news, sports, and entertainment, works closely with those brand partners, and drives best practice and continuous improvement in quality engineering. Quality belongs to the whole team, and SETs own quality processes across development, testing, and delivery.

This is a Software Developer in Test II role focused on keeping CNN Digital releases high quality. You will automate tests and take part in every testing stage across the software development lifecycle. The ideal candidate has built reliable automated suites and helped ship stable, scalable releases that run successfully in production. SETs also care about user experience and bring a commitment to quality, learning, and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of testing work from analysis and planning through development and execution, and make sure the application meets quality standards.
• Set the test approach and design test scenarios.
• Work alongside senior engineers to extend existing automated tests and build new ones.
• Review test cases and code, and contribute through technical documentation, stakeholder communication, and other channels as needed.
• Find and fix technical problems in testing, including diagnosing and debugging faults.
• Model good practice and help build a team culture centred on quality through test automation.
• Improve processes by weighing the long-term health of manual and automated test suites. Work with other SETs to plan and carry out changes to process and strategy that keep our applications well supported.
• Keep up with new testing methods, tools, and industry practices.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of experience automating software tests, with a record of supporting quality releases by expanding automation coverage as directed.
• Working knowledge of at least one test automation framework.
• Working knowledge of one or more programming languages, such as JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, or Java.
• Proven working knowledge of debugging tools and CI/CD processes.
• Ability to reason through complex problems and their implications.
• Solid understanding of, and experience with, unit, functional, integration, API, load, and performance testing.
• Strong knowledge of the web domain.
• Working knowledge of digital payments projects. Experience testing subscription lifecycles is preferred.
• Knowledge of compliance testing against financial regulations and standards is a nice to have.
• Good understanding of building digital products for web, mobile, OTT, and backend infrastructure.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience with common software and testing tools such as GitHub, Jenkins, Charles Proxy, Postman, BrowserStack, and similar.

Conditions

Base salary range is $77,900.00 to $124,600.00 per year.

Pay within that range depends on factors including location, market data, internal equity, skills, experience, training, education, and performance.
