Description

The Opportunity

MHK is hiring for a technically savvy Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) who will help ensure the reliability, availability, scalability, and performance of our healthcare technology platforms. This role is expected to change and improve our reliability, availability, scalability, and performance – not just maintain existing systems and processes. Additionally, you'll focus on keeping production systems healthy and resilient, monitor and improve system reliability, establish and maintain service-level objectives, respond to and lead production incidents, identify systemic causes of failures, and build automation that eliminates repetitive operational work.

The ideal candidate will improve the reliability, availability, scalability, and performance of our systems while solving complex production challenges through expertise in distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, automation, observability, and data-driven analysis.

Hybrid: This hybrid role is based in Tampa, FL and requires working in the office 3 days per week .

Position Responsibilities

Reliability & Production Engineering: Own and improve the reliability, availability, scalability, and performance of MHK production applications and infrastructure; establish and continuously improve SLIs, SLOs, SLAs, and reliability metrics.

Observability & Monitoring: Design, implement, and maintain monitoring, logging, alerting, dashboards, and observability solutions; improve visibility into application and infrastructure health.

Incident Response & Problem Management: Lead and participate in production incident response; diagnose complex issues; coordinate recovery; conduct root-cause analysis and drive corrective actions through completion.

Automation & Toil Reduction: Identify repetitive and error-prone operational work and develop automation using Python, Bash, or similar tools to reduce manual intervention and operational toil.

Capacity, Performance & Scalability: Analyze system performance, capacity, latency, error rates, resource utilization, and scaling requirements; identify and resolve performance bottlenecks and reliability risks.

Reliability & Resilience Engineering: Identify single points of failure, evaluate system dependencies and failure modes, and develop strategies to improve high availability, fault tolerance, disaster recovery, and system resilience.

Cloud & Infrastructure Reliability: Support and improve the reliability of AWS production environments, including networking, storage, IAM, DNS, load balancing, databases, and related cloud services.

Release & Change Reliability: Partner with Engineering and QA to establish production-readiness standards, deployment safeguards, health checks, rollback strategies, and operational validation for production changes.

Documentation & Operational Excellence: Develop and maintain runbooks, troubleshooting guides, service documentation, escalation procedures, and incident response processes.

Cross-Functional Reliability Partnership: Partner with Software Engineering, QA, Infrastructure, Security, Product, and other technical teams to identify reliability risks and implement sustainable solutions.

Position Requirements

Five (5) or more years of experience in Site Reliability Engineering, Production Engineering, Systems Engineering, Cloud Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline.

Strong understanding of SRE principles, including SLIs, SLOs, SLAs, error budgets, reliability metrics, service ownership, resilience engineering, and disaster recovery.

Demonstrated experience supporting production applications and infrastructure in high-availability environments.

Hands-on experience supporting, troubleshooting, and improving AWS cloud environments, including compute, networking, storage, IAM, DNS, load balancing, databases, and related services.

Experience leading production incident response, troubleshooting issues across applications, infrastructure, databases, networking, and cloud services, and completing root-cause analyses, post-incident reviews, and corrective actions.

Strong knowledge of observability practices, including monitoring, logging, alerting, dashboards, application performance monitoring, distributed tracing, and service health analysis.

Strong Linux systems administration, networking, performance optimization, capacity planning, and reliability troubleshooting skills, including TCP/IP, HTTP/HTTPS, DNS, firewalls, and VPC networking.

Ability to develop automation using Python, Bash, or similar tools; reduce operational toil; communicate complex technical issues clearly; and collaborate effectively with Engineering, QA, Infrastructure, Security, Product, and technical leadership.

Education/Certification Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

Relevant professional experience in Site Reliability Engineering, Production Engineering, Systems Engineering, Cloud Engineering, or a closely related discipline including supporting high volume java applications.

Professional certifications related to AWS, cloud engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, or related technical disciplines preferred.
