Description

The defense systems group of the company is hiring a Staff Software Engineer in Huntsville, AL to support the program.

The role leads the strategy, design and build of the software test automation architecture. You will set the vision for a Python-based automation framework that uses company tools, including the Software Requirements Checker Tool (SRCT), to produce robust, certifiable test solutions.

You will be the main technical authority for software test automation on the program. You will own the end-to-end architecture and every deliverable from the Software Test team, and you will work with systems engineering, software development and program leadership to deliver a high-quality, certifiable test solution on schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Set the technical direction for the Software Test team and keep it aligned with program goals and schedules.
  • Define and guide the software design of the Python framework and its SRCT integrations.
  • Set and enforce architecture and coding standards that keep the work scalable, maintainable and compliant.
  • Lead the team to certify requirements on time by removing technical blockers early and managing risk.
  • Lead and coordinate software test work across multiple sites, keeping processes, quality and communication consistent.
  • Work with product and engineering teams to build sound test methods, trace requirements to test cases and write clear, complete test documentation.
  • Design, build and maintain automated test environments that raise coverage and improve efficiency and repeatability.
  • Mentor team members by sharing your expertise, giving feedback and encouraging continuous learning and improvement.
  • Plan and coordinate software test releases against the wider program schedule, resolving dependencies and risks as they come up.
  • Use sound judgment to choose and carry out courses of action that meet program objectives, working closely with systems engineering, software development and management.
  • Monitor the quality and timeliness of delivered products, spot problems early and drive fixes before they affect customers or milestones.
  • Act as the lead technical test voice in reviews with senior management and customer stakeholders, reporting status, risks and recommendations clearly.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree with 12+ years of relevant experience, a master's degree with 10+ years, a Ph.D. with 8+ years, or 4 additional years of experience in place of a degree.
  • You must be a U.S. citizen holding an active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at the time you apply. The clearance must be current and within scope (less than 6 years old). You must also be able to obtain and keep SAP approval within a reasonable period, as the company decides based on its business needs.
  • At least 1 year of experience leading projects or driving team performance against schedule commitments.
  • At least 2 years of demonstrated experience planning and running software tests for embedded and/or application software.
  • Strong Python skills, including hands-on work developing, debugging and maintaining software and/or test scripts.
  • Experience managing a product team and delivering regular, process-driven releases to a government customer.
  • Solid background in software testing and troubleshooting, including taking part in or supporting a Software Review Board (SRB) or an equivalent governance process.
  • Experience writing and reviewing requirements and ensuring vertical traceability across a program-defined specification and document tree.
  • Experience using Cameo (MagicDraw or Cameo Systems Modeler) or an equivalent model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tool.
  • Experience supporting informal integration as well as formal qualification testing.
  • Experience preparing Basis of Estimate (BOE) artifacts and supporting Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) and Initial/Interim Financial Commitment (IFC) planning.
  • Preferred: demonstrated leadership on medium-to-large, complex programs.
  • Preferred: hands-on experience developing and integrating software automation scripts.
  • Preferred: proficiency with Python application frameworks such as Django, Flask or similar.
  • Preferred: practical experience working in a SAFe Agile environment, including PI planning, ART ceremonies and backlog management.
  • Preferred: working knowledge of the Atlassian tools Jira and Bitbucket for requirements, configuration and workflow management.
  • Preferred: strong understanding of DO-178 airworthiness processes and artifacts, including HLR and LLR development and Segment/System/Software traceability mapping.
  • Preferred: familiarity with Real-Time Component Framework (RTCF) concepts and implementation.
  • Preferred: excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven record of working effectively in large, multi-disciplinary teams as a leader or individual contributor.
