Senior Transportation Engineer

Description

The company is looking for a senior highway and roadway engineer to lead planning, design and delivery of mid-sized to large roadway and highway improvement projects at its Orange, CA office.

The role calls for deep technical skill, project leadership, and client-focused solutions that meet Caltrans and local agency standards.

Responsibilities

• Act as lead engineer on mid-sized to large highway and roadway projects.
• Give technical direction and subject-matter expertise from studies through final design.
• Review, approve and sign engineering work where required.
• Run quality control and quality assurance reviews of work produced by others.
• Build and oversee Caltrans and Greenbook-compliant design packages, covering plans, specifications and estimates.
• Prepare engineering cost estimates, schedules and budgets for large projects.
• Explain complex technical concepts and design options to clients and stakeholders.
• Help write technical proposals and presentations.
• Mentor and guide staff to raise technical standards and support their development.
• Take part in professional organizations and support business development as needed.

Requirements

• Required: a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related discipline.
• Required: at least 8 years of relevant transportation engineering experience, or an equivalent mix of education and experience.
• Required: U.S. citizenship.
• Preferred: a Professional Engineer (PE) license. If you are not licensed in California, you should be able to obtain California PE licensure within 12 months.
• Preferred: 10 or more years of increasingly senior highway and roadway design experience.
• Preferred: proven delivery of Caltrans highway or roadway projects, with Southern California experience a plus.
• Preferred: proficiency in MicroStation, InRoads, AutoCAD and Civil 3D, including experience leading design teams that use them.
• Preferred: experience writing technical specifications to Greenbook and/or Caltrans standards.
• Preferred: strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Preferred: interest in marketing and business development, including proposal support and client presentations.
